Going out of Stocky's this weekend

Recommended Posts

wormfood

Heading up to the big pond and I am going to be staying in a rental at Stocky's with a couple other friends.

I am just looking for info on what's accessable from Stocky's and is close by that I could try during the day for perch. I don't want to be driving all over the ice.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

SW side of the lake just as you pass through Onamia. Another thing I forgot to ask and haven't seen in the forum is how much ice there is. I've got a power auger but I'm wondering if I'll need an extension...

Thanks for the tip Derek.

I fish out of Stocky's but haven't been up there as of late. If you go out of Stocky's Harbor follow the road to the group of houses out and to the right about 1/2 mile. Go left off of there and you'll find a reef tht comes up to 18-19 feet and drops off into the main lake. We have done well there for slots. Sorry I don't have better directions, but look for guys in portables as they are usually on the fish.

We ended up catching a couple eyes and a put friday night (no fish in the slot).

We managed to convince a couple nice perch to bite sat & sun with absolutely nothing over night! We saw a ton of perch on the camera but they just were not biting. 20+ mph winds and deadly cold probably didn't help much.

We tried to check out the recommended areas with the portable (not sure if we were in right spots) but we were marking fish but no bites. Probably drilled about 50 holes in varying depths with no luck except a bad case of chilly feet!

Overall it was a fun weekend as the rental shack was da bomb! Now all I have to do is stop by Dewey's and pick up my pillow that I forgot in the shack. My wife just hates the fact that the pillow cases goes with the sheets we have and how could I forget it up there! Ha! Thanks again for the tips, maybe next time...

Sounds like you were in the average catch rates of what's been going on up there this year. Dewey's a great guy, you'll get that pillow back for sure. Sounds like a bad weekend for searching out of the cozy cabin.

The water in Cannon lake is the clearest I've ever seen it. You can see the bottom in 5ft easily. Caught a few perch and a striped bass. Also saw some big bass around the fishing pier by the beach.

Dang ,,, Another nice day to be out on the water on Fish Lake  ,,, Too bad the fish didn't think it was nice enough to eat what we offered !! Might have to switch bodies of water!!!

Lake Sylvia is great for bass also lake Francis near Kimball is good too a little smaller but great action! The Mississippi sounds fun I should try it myself.

Update.  Minnesota American Legion and other volunteers succeeded Thursday, May 17, 2018, in cutting the giant North Long Lake bog into three sections. The bog came to rest on the beach of an American Legion camp. The plan is to move the middle section to open up the beach, then relocate the other two back to the bog’s original position on the lake north of Brainerd, Minn. (Forum News Service)

The Minnesota record is almost that big, it's over 5lbs and it was caught in the Vermillion river in southern Minnesota back in the late 50's I believe.   "Ace"

You need to go west or perhaps north of Pine island if you don't want to go that far.   "Ace"   "It's just fishing man"

I spoke to a buddy who was at Sag over the weekend, and my dad who was fishing a lake a bit north of Leech - none of them had much luck on walleye. I'm chalking it up to a walleye blackout across the northern part of the state. I just need an excuse for the rest of the trips I take! We're talking about coming up again in the fall. I definitely would like to come back for a longer trip, there is so much more of the lake to explore

It usually pays off finding your own fish.   Nice report.
