Heading up to the big pond and I am going to be staying in a rental at Stocky's with a couple other friends.

I am just looking for info on what's accessable from Stocky's and is close by that I could try during the day for perch. I don't want to be driving all over the ice.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Where the heck is Stocky's???? I've never heard of it!!

SW side of the lake just as you pass through Onamia. Another thing I forgot to ask and haven't seen in the forum is how much ice there is. I've got a power auger but I'm wondering if I'll need an extension...

Thanks for the tip Derek.

I fish out of Stocky's but haven't been up there as of late. If you go out of Stocky's Harbor follow the road to the group of houses out and to the right about 1/2 mile. Go left off of there and you'll find a reef tht comes up to 18-19 feet and drops off into the main lake. We have done well there for slots. Sorry I don't have better directions, but look for guys in portables as they are usually on the fish.

We ended up catching a couple eyes and a put friday night (no fish in the slot).

We managed to convince a couple nice perch to bite sat & sun with absolutely nothing over night! We saw a ton of perch on the camera but they just were not biting. 20+ mph winds and deadly cold probably didn't help much.

We tried to check out the recommended areas with the portable (not sure if we were in right spots) but we were marking fish but no bites. Probably drilled about 50 holes in varying depths with no luck except a bad case of chilly feet!

Overall it was a fun weekend as the rental shack was da bomb! Now all I have to do is stop by Dewey's and pick up my pillow that I forgot in the shack. My wife just hates the fact that the pillow cases goes with the sheets we have and how could I forget it up there! Ha! Thanks again for the tips, maybe next time...

Sounds like you were in the average catch rates of what's been going on up there this year. Dewey's a great guy, you'll get that pillow back for sure. Sounds like a bad weekend for searching out of the cozy cabin.

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
