I plan on fishing somewhere around my place in Wirt this weekend with some time spent chasing grouse too. Not sure which lake yet.....that'll depend on the ice conditions. smirk.gif

Be safe and good luck !!

There is poor ice conditions on Bowstring at this time. The ice had lots of cracks in it and it looks like the weather will be above 33 the next few days.

Danny: Can you drive out onto Bowstring in a truck to ice fish? Is it plowed? Do you use the north access? Thanks.

They are fishing a few lakes. My friend saw a house on a lake by scenic 7. Long lake near loon had some people on it. This snow isn't helping, going to try and get out next week.

Leegs1, the north access can be a problem a lot of the time. The ice always seems to heave up on that end and the cement ramp usaually pushes up. Last year someone chopped through the ice heave and it wasn't too bad. The west access is a lot easier most years, but if you fish the north end it is a little drive across the lake. No one normally plows a road out except on ocassion to there fish house. If you make it up, good luck!!!

Minnowscoop,

Please post a report if you guys get out. My kid's and I had a blast up there this summer. Lots of nice sized gills in there and the occassional walleye or two mixed in doesn't hurt either. Keep in mind the limit on sunfish in this lake is 5. We C&R'd alot of nice one's last summer. Lots of fish in the 8-10" range! I ice fished the south end of the lake two years ago and every hole i cut had fish in the bottom of it! It's always a good sign when you drop the vexi transducer down and it lights up like a christmas tree!

Well was up on grave lake but didnt get a chance to fish. Drilled 3 holes in front of the cabin. Got about 25yds out before it was too thin for my liking. Started at 4 inches near shore 2 inches 25yds out.Put the camera down and seen nothing but weeds. Its notwhere I would have fished anyways. Cut down 20 trees. We finished just before dark. Was too tired to fish.

Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.

just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.

Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!

It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
