Recommended Posts

Never fished the river on the ice but I really want to try it out. Where do you guys fish? behind rocks or other spots? I suppose I should maybe wait for alittle while yet before I go smirk.gif

In the winter most of the fish like to hole up. Anytime I've ever fished the river in the winter I have fished in and around the holes. I'm talking anything over 14'. I'm sure there are other guys that might have a little more to tell you but that's all I got. Oh, and be careful that river ice takes a while before it is safe and if you have an older auger I would use that. When the ice on the river freezes, sand and stuff freezes in it and it does a number on your blades.

Icefishing the river can be fun but watch out the ice is never safe. 1 spot can be 6 inches and the next area might have 1 inch ,I fish quite abit at the highway 4 bridge it is about 16-20 feet deep, depending on the year. Also down from franklin bridge teir is a few holes to ,try Good luck

Holes are the main area that I fish! I look for holes with rock along the side try and get right on the transition of the rock and sand! The water right now is at 33.6 degrees where I was fishing! Landing the boat got a little tricky! Remember, Ice is never considered safe due to it's unpredictable nature! Especially on the river! Play it safe(safer) and travel with a buddy!
