Wheelers Point?

Anybody stay at Wheelers Point for ice fishing? Me and a few other guys will be staying in cabins, and renting a couple fish houses for the day in early January, anybody used them? How was it?

John, I have never stayed there but I was in the bar the end of Cotober. I stay at Ballards but one night we went out on tour. The bar is very nice and open. The gal behind the bar was very intertaining to say the least(Val was her name I believe). The owners came over to the table and we talked for a while they were very nice people. I was impressed with the bar and the owners the gal behind the bar is another story. Nothing bad but just out there a little bit. I don't think you could go wrong there.

Like others I have not stayed there but have had a few whiskeys there. The people seem nice and you are walking/crawling distance from the WIGWAM(a nice location for Saturday nights for the live bands). I personally like the Riverbend for fishing, food, and booze thats where I hang my hat when Im up there. The Riverbend also has Broasted Chicken which tastes great in the fishhouse with some cold Brewsky if you stay there they will bring it out to your house for you. Cant beat that YOUBETCHA!!!!

We have stayed every year for a few years and were very satisfied. The new bar area is a nice improvement. Lund 18 is right on with his comments.

Like I said I think it's another great resort in the area. All I can say about the night I was there is that the help behind the bar was drunker than any of the customers. It made for some interesting conversation and laughs. I would stay there if I wasn't already intrenched at Ballards.

I stayed up there last year and really don't have anything to complain about. Hopefully I will be staying there again next week if there is enough ice. The one thing I will warn you about is that the guide is a little lazy at times. It did not bother me, but don't expect him to actually get out of the truck to check on you.

I have stayed in the cabins a few times for both ice and open water fishing and didn't have any complaints. The cabins are good and clean and price was reasonable. We didn't rent any houses or use a guide, we fished from portables and on our own so don't have any comments on that side of it.

Ok, here's a differant twist. I stayed up there with a friend last winter. The staff barely greeted us, no one went out of there way to help us, much less lift a finger. The big guy that drove us out to the ice house was almost downright rude. We ended up driving ourselves out so we wouldn't "Inconvenience" him any more. I don't ever expect to be waited on but I do like to meet good people and feel welcome. I have lived all over the northland and I can't say I have ever felt more like an outsider... I am going up several times this year, I haven't decided where yet, but I can tell you this.. Wheeler's Point is not on the list. Another downer for us. Having an ice house right on the ice road. Having the big guy drive by ever 1/2 hr. shaking the house. It felt like sitting on a freeway.. No Thanks.. Again I don't wan't to be the negative guy, but I felt some one had to give you the other picture! Good Luck, Good Fishin
