Every gun is different even within the same make and model. If you cannot get out to shoot your gun at a 30 inch circle at 30 yards I would suggest a load of magnum 5s or 6's in lead (Federal Premium have worked well for me in 1 1/8 ounce) or if you need to shoot steel (WPA's etc) I would go with magnum number 4's for pheasant.

Back to patterning your gun. It is an eye opening experience. Different loads and different chokes make a big difference. I have had more open chokes produce better, tighter, more uniform patterns than tighter chokes with certain loads. Going through the process is worth the costs of a few boxes of ammo, some paper and an afternoon worth of time.

Good luck.

sounds good walleye, I have been shooting feds premium and starting last year Fiachii 3"s I like to shoot 5s, but last year, I ended up shooting one $100 pheasant in SD out of many many shots. I couldnt beleive myself and never had the problem before, but if I do my homework, I can probably better my success... thanks for the info.
