tanning a deer hide

My dad is thinking of having the hide from his deer tanned. Anyone know anyone around here that may do this? I assumed taxidermists do but he called a couple that said they send them out. Looking for info if someone knows of someone who does it local at a reasonable rate. Wouldn't need to be a taxidermist.

He just plans to hang the hide over a stair rail with some other hides so it's not going to be a mount or wall display that needs to be perfect.

I, myself, lost a monster. Rib bone chunks, bright red and pink blood and chunks of lung left in the first 300 yards and believe it or not, it would not stop. Let it sit and it wouldn't lay down. Tracked it for 11 hours this past weekend until the blood trail slowed and it eventually hit a logged off area and we couldn't find the trail after that. What a shame. I was sick and heartbroken and exhausted. It was the buck of a lifetime. Must have hit in just one lung and somehow missed the other vitals. It was a quartering away shot but seemed do-able.

Sad thing was, this deer went under 9 vacant deer stands in broad daylight on Saturday while we were trailing it. Wish someone had been there to stop it.

Too bad.

No can help with tanning info. Sorry to hear you lost your deer. Unbelievably tough animals. I thought I was in need of some kind of drugs tonight after a couple of rough fishing trips, but after hearing your story I realize things could be worse. I know things could be a lot worse, but it drives me nuts to fish like a mad man and catch very few walleyes. I'm going to try my luck with the roosters now and see how that goes.
