Gibbins contact info??

Recommended Posts

Hi all, we went with Gibbins ice fishing last winter and had a BLAST. I'd like to go with them again this year. Does anyone know a phone number where they can be reached? I tried the number on their website and I got some crabby old lady that didn't have time for me!! I wrote an email yesterday but haven't heard back yet...maybe they are no longer in business?? Any/all info is appreciated!

[editors note: Gibbins Ice Fishing is now known as Fire and Ice Fishing. You can reach them at and check out http://fireandicefishing.com or call 218-634-2653. Please be sure to thank them for their sponsorship]

Just made a reservation with Bryant. Our group will be staying in a sleeper on the 14, 15, 16 of January. Anyone else going up around this time?

Dr. Bob,

I am taking your word that Gibbins is a great place to stay. We went out of Arnesens last year and were happy, but thought a little change was needed. 2 months to go and I can't wait.

Stillno....

I am planning on being there the 14-16th as well. You will be happy with Bryant and Jason. They work their a$$es off for you. Good bunch of guys, and they are not afraid to swing through at about supper time for a hydraulic sandwich...although I think Jason only drinks whisky!

I have never been with anyone else, but our first trip with gibbins was fun enough that we didn't need to look anywhere else. Good luck! Maybe we'll meet you out there! Look for 3 guys that have obviously had TOO many Hamm's!

Rodbuilder,

That's great news. There will be 7 of us fishing this year. I will ask for rodbuilder on the two way radio. I don't think there are to many people out there that would respond to that name. Good luck to ya and we will definitely have a beer for you, if we are able to meet up.

Rodbuilder, your welcome for the information. I have fished out of the " BIG RESORTS " for the past 10 years, but wanted an outfit that was small enough to keep me on the fish. i went with Bryant & Jason on a whim and couldnt be happier. Last year before Xmas, 4 of us caught 102 fish and lost at least 1/4 of that. We will be back the day after Xmas and staying the evenings at the Wigwam. Hope to see any other FM's there.

I have two questions with regards to Gibbins sleepers. Is there an electrical outlet in the house to use for recharging my vexilar battery? We will also be up for three nights and are curious if there is a shower to use around the resort? Thanks for the helpful information.

Stillno...There was no electricity in our house last year. My vex lasts about 2.5-3 days on 1 battery, but I am sure you could bring an extra if you want. Is there a shower around the resort?...which resort? These are sleeper houses. You go out and don't go back to shore till the day you leave. As far as I know, gibbinis are on their own, not associated with any resort. Ya, you'll stink by the last day, but so be it, you you don't need to smell pretty for Bryant and Jason!

Can't WAIT to get on the hard water!!!

good luck!

Rodbuilder,

Thanks for the response. We were thinking of driving out if the ice allows us. Some of the guys were wondering if there was a shower close by that they could drive to later in the afternoon. You can probably tell that there are a few in the group that I would not consider die-hard fisherman. I read in another post that the showers are few and far between. So I guess those guys will have to suck it up and bring extra deodorant. One last question for you if you don't mind. Are there any rattle reels in the sleepers? The reason I ask, is last year our group caught two nice walleyes around 11:30 pm and one guy is adament on doing it again this year. Thanks again for the info.

Our house didn't have rattle reels (i don't think??). BUT, being the intelligent SOB's that we are, we made our own fish alarms! Try to keep this a secret now...When we went to sleep, we had our lines down with slip bobbers attached, then looped the line around an empty hydraulic sandwich can. The theory was, if a fish took it down, the can would fall, wake us up, and we would catch the fish...sounds good right???...well...we woke up in the morning, all the lines were down, beer cans tipped over all over the floor, and we never heard a sound...I guess we had to many "sandwiches" before bed!!

Oh...and what did we catch using that method??...1 stinkin eelpout....as usual, he ran a big circle and took out all the lines! mad.gif

Good luck!

Well if it gets that bad with no showers they can always take a bath. grin.gif Just have to cut the holes bigger.

The house we had from Gibbins last year had a couple buzzer boxes that had contact you could put the line through and when it pulled out the contact closed and turned on a buzzer. Rattle wheels are difficult in the houses with the hole in the middle rather than along the walls but the buzzer boxes work OK. The biggest thing is waking up...
