Lyons Sleepers

Recommended Posts

Anyone use Lyon's Sleepers before? What kind of shape are their sleepers in and do they have a nice layout for fishing? Do they work hard to keep you on fish? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I used Tim Lyons last year. He is a class guy and we caught alot of fish. Houses were roomy and comfortable (depending on how many of you are trying to fish).... I think you'll be pleased.

I've never tried a sleeper house before. Is the fishing decent at night? We have stayed at many different resorts and are thinking of doing a sleeper this time.

Fishing at night...ha! Unless you like eel pout! Stayed over night and thats about the only thing..the bottle bass were jumping out of the hole!

Thanks for the input. There's going to be four or maybe five of us. Four is about right for a 6 person sleeper. Any more than that and it starts to get crowded.

The fishing sucks at night. It's just fun to sleep out on the ice and talk smart and drink a few beers when it gets dark.

It's also a lot easier in the morning to just get up, get dressed, and lower your line down the hole, and voila! You're fishing. You've got food in front of you. A radio for tunes, you can play cards, all in a nice warm fishing shack. The alternative is getting up earlier at the hotel, driving, out on the water, getting set up and then fishing, and being cold for a little while until your house warms up. Not knocking that approach. It's the only way to go if you are a hardcore ice angler.

The downside of a sleeper is if the fish aren't going you can't move to find them. All in all, I just love it. Even when the fish aren't going I have a good time. It's a great stress reliever.

My boys and I have used Lyons Sleepers for 10 years and have already made our reservations for this year! There is no one that works harder to keep you on the fish then Tim. He is a class act and always wants to ensure that you're having a great time. I know the minimum number of people Tim & Deb require for a house is four, so you should be OK. Tim will also leave an auger behind if you want to try fishing outside, plus they have a number of day houses nearby that you can use when you're out there. Good luck, but I give them a big thumbs up!!

Excellent fishing and service! Tim also has a number of "day houses" you can use if you want to get out of the sleeper and try some different depths.

I wasn't trying to attack anyone. I was just looking for a web address for Lyons Sleepers. I don't know why my post was deleted. So, does anyone know it?

Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.

just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.

Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!

It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
