New Pressure Ridge formed SUNDAY

was out on the numbered flats all day today. went out of indian point public. good ice on the way out, just a few small ridges that were closed up had to be crossed. however, on the way back in a new ridge had broke open running from indian point to the inside of shermans flats. not sure how far it goes but there was plenty of open water on each side in some spots. we managed to find a spot with only a foot gap and chiseled the ridge down to get the truck through. that ALWAYS scares me... just a heads up to let ya know whats going on out on hte pond...

would not have mattered had you been on a public or out from the resorts. the ridge is WAY out and I am sure no resort had bridged it yet when we were looking to get off. on normal years I do go out of resorts and do not mind paying a few for road usage. I worked at a marina for years and we plowed lake roads also. however, this year it is not necessary to go out from the resorts as the whole lake is very easy to get around as long as you know at least a little bit about the ice. I do still eat at the resorts and spend my money there instead of the "CASINO" when I head up there. last sunday we had our limit of slots, today was a little slower we had 2 slots

they are hanging out together, if you find slots there should be alot of them there

I can see it being possible, but so is winning the lottery, getting struck by lighting, etc, etc. Now there are spots on Mille Lacs that tend to produce more slot fish and as many of you know fish also tend to school by year classes. So if you can find a good school of slots you are probably very likely to get more than the average population fishing the lake. But 2 limits in one weekend, I too find this tough to believe.

hey morris code I ASSURE you that it is possible, the slots hang out together, and if you drill enough holes and hole jump it is possible. it is NOTHING for me and my buddies to get out on hte lake and pound a minimum of a hundred holes and move from hole to hole. why sit and wait for them to come to you. the active fish will hit quickly if you drop a jig on top of them. ya drilling that many holes SUCKS but it almost ALWAYS pays off. just bring extra auger gas along. and it does not happen ALL the time but I almost always come home with a few slots. and people always wonder how. well I do not go and sit in my fishhouse and drink beer and smoke cigs, I FISH my *** off out there. I am always moving from hole to hole to hole. if you are lazy then I can hardly see how it would be possible to catch a limit of slots. THANK GOD FOR LAZY FISHERMANN because it leaves more fish for the guys that dont mind working a little bit. so for all of you complainers about the slots out there maybe if you would actually fish and not just sit around and hope that you will catch a limit while sitting in your permanant house you might be able to do the same thing. I am tired of hearing people complain about that lake. there is probably NOWHERE else in the world that you can go and catch the number of fish that you catch on that lake and the quality of fish. I have fished many different lakes all throughout the midwest and canada and I have never seen another lake like it. so QUIT BITCHING about it.

sorry I got off on a tangent there but it always seems that people bitch about the slot but why not just enjoy catching fish and if you find the slots GREAT, and if you dont have fun anyway. as for me this winter I have found a spot where slot fish are hanging out and NO MORRIS CODE will not tell because I am tightlipped and that is why I continue to catch these slot fish. why on earth would I share info with people on the internet about a hotspot. I dont share "HOTSPOTS" with even some close friends. that is why they are still HOTSPOTS..........

Nice catch Fishermann222, I would agree that the slots do hang together. That was the key to being successful in the tournaments on Mille Lacs this year. Find spots that have lots of small fish, not lots of fish.

Quick question for anybody, How much ice is there out on the flats?

last sunday there was about 16 inches everywhere that I drilled, I did see a few spots of 17 also. I imagine there must be 19 or 20 inches up there now as there is VERY LITTLE snow for insulation. the lake was pretty clear from ridges except for the big one that formed last sunday (read first post on this thread) I had my big truck out there last weekend. should not have a problem.

Morris, as any tournament fisherman knows, it didn't take many slots last year to beat a 28" early in the year (very skinny). That is why we focused on slot fish. I can count 4 spots that had much better ratio of slot fish to larger fish. Some of these spots were actually found in the winter.

With the abundance of baitfish, this year will be totally different and our approach to this years tournaments will be much different. I hope you do see us on the top of the leader board at the Wackers!! If you do a little searching you can see how we did in other tournaments on Mille Lacs. I think we fished 5 or 6 of them. morriscode I have not fished the wackers tournament up there. there is only time for so many tournaments in a year. THere are other guys like me out there also morris that continue to catch fish on the big pond. I am sorry if you do not believe that we can catch slots, thats fine if you dont want to. thanks for the support everyone, and good luck in the tournies this year, I know I need it...

This thread is getting slightly off topic here and is close to being closed.

There could be many reasons for why these EXCELLENT fishermen (and I do mean excellent because I have fished with most of them) have not fished the wavewackers. It was almost impossible to get in the last few years, (last year really does not count), and also the price involved. There could be others such as conflicts with other tourneys.

So, I would sugjest that we tone it down and discuss things in a civil manner.

It is very possible to catch two limits of slot fish. Last year it was a little easier. Now, is just a matter of finding the right spot and working to get those fish to bite.

Just curious, but on average how many fish are you catching for every slot fish? Last year most spots that I fished I would have to catch 15-25 for every slot. There was another spot that I was catching 2 or 3 fish to every slot.

On one outing last year my brother-in-law and I kept 11 (when the limit was six each) slot fish and thew back others until just before it was time to leave. "OK next fish and we have to get going....OK next slot fish and we have to leave..." We kept our limit, but we could have had enough slot fish for three guys.

I haven't had anything like that this year, but it is possible. Like Fish222 said when things are slow you have to be active if you want to find active fish.

I wasn't in the Wacker this year, but I was in others. My partner and I did quite well. We never landed one over 28" during a tournament. Our plan going into the tournaments was to key in on slot fish and then go for the big one. We were always in the front of the pack vs. other anglers with slot fish. We had plenty of fish close to 28, but its fishing, not horseshoes. If we can fit it in our schedule, we may do the Wacker this year. If not, you can look for us on other tournament leaderboards... smile.gif

Fish222 mentioned he was prefishing for the MWC this spring.....yes another tournament angler.
