I don't want to start a fight or hurt anyone's feelings, but..... I think those are horrible looking prints. The fish don't look lifelike at all.

Just my opinion.

Sorry it's early .... I should just keep my mouth shut. crazy.gif

I'm no artist nor am I any kind of critic. But do those fish in them prints look like they have trout or salmon mouths?

I was looking at them asking myself the same questions. That walleye looks like a steelhead body painted like a walleye. Too short and stocky for that record walleye. The Northern doesnt really look well praportioned either. This guy is a Nationaly known artist but maybe doesnt know his fish too well.

Just wondering if any of you fishingmn members have any hook ups with someone thats into wildlife painting for a living. I have five total finished oil paintings on my wall right now with another being half done. I've been into painting my whole life and I love fishing, so they go hand in hand. The ones I have finished are; a walleye, lm bass, pike, sm bass, and blk crappies. The bluegill one is still in the working. This is something I would love to do full time. I just need to get someone to help get me going in the right direction........Thanks LEECH21

LEECH21, I'd like to see your paintings, can you post some pictures or send them to me?

Sure Surface Tension, I'll post them (or try to). I haven't posted a pic since FM switched to the new format. I'll have to set up a new account with a pic hosting site. I have to step out of the house for a bit, but I'll try to get them soon. Thanks for your interest in my paintings.

LEECH21-

One of my relatives, I believe its my dad's cousin, paints for a living. His name is John House. He won the MN state duck stamp in 1999 and the MN pheasant stamp in 2004. You can do a search for 'John House Art' and you'll find his webpage. He does very nice work. I don't know him very well but my dad does.

Sorry about the double post. The pictures are fairly clear. As you can imagine they are pictures of pictures. Kinda hard to fit the canvas in the scanner. LOL grin.gif The bottom of the bass pic turned out funny when I was scanning it somehow....but I'm sure you'll get the idea of what the actual paintings look like. I hope you enjoy my work....LEECH21

Very nice! Are they named and signed?

I don't know squat about the market but I see some great potential for magazine, book or ad illustrations.

WOW! Very nice Leech. You really should look into that as a full time thing. I'd like to have one your paintings on my wall. Any way of getting you to paint one for me? grin.gif

Wow, pretty impressive LEECH21. You should have made it an Ice Buster Bobber on the crappies painting and you may have gotten one of the advertisers to make a large bid. grin.gif

Those paintings are very impressive. I'm not sure of the process to make the into prints, but if you do let us know. I would love to have a print of that crappie on my wall.

Very nice Leech! You really should go full time with it. I think you'd do really good if you did.

Thanks for all the compliments. They are really appreciated. I'm not sure on the print thing either. I'm trying to get some info on it. Like how much it costs to make a print and where can I get them made up? I'd much rather sell 500 paintings for less money than 1 for quite a bit more. Right now I'm having troubles parting with the ones I've got. Each one takes about 30+ hours to paint up. So parting with the ones I have done is real hard. My wife keeps telling me that I'm not going to make any money if I don't sell them. I tell her that if I sell them all, then how am I going to show people my work? I thought about going onto the forum and asking to trade a guided trip somewhere for one of my paintings, but I'm not sure if I want to do that either. Pikehunter I will e-mail you. Thanks again felles! LEECH21

Northlander, is your otter made of canvas or a different kind of material? I might be able to work something out with you.

I think people overlooked the point, I never said the prints were good, just that it was cool that someone painted up the situation, and the record was caught on a Phelps Floater and leech. Funny comments though, interesting how it does look like the salmon!

Leech, I would love to check out your paintings in person, and I'll be coming through Willmar in a couple weeks. Shoot me an e-mail! mjbreuer at paulbunyan.net

Leech21, Your crappie picture is incredibly realistic! Many cuts above the salmon/walleye. Your obvious talent really shows through in your creations. I happen to know Dan Smith(I'm sure you have heard of him) I will try to forward your print to him and make some query's about how to proceed on your behalf. Just don't forget who your old buddies are after you become rich and famous. My warmest regards and best wish's for your continued success. smile.gif1DIRTBALL aka:Keith

Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.

just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.

Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

Falls gone Gim, time to move to ice fishin!!👍

Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!

It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
