Rum River report (11/6/04)

Recommended Posts

I fished the Rum Saturday morning. I spent most of my time between the Highway 10 bridge and the dam. Caught 7 (4 were small, the other 3 were 17.18, and a very fat 19). All bit of a river chub. Best action was in the early morning but the big fish came between 10-12. Most of the active fished seemed to be on the steep shorlines, five to 8 feet from shore, in areas of little or no current. Tried crawlers too, but no luck.

Any body no when the river will be lowered?

Yeah, he was already fishing at 6:50am at the same spot. He throws a crawler out on catfish type rig. I think he noticed me too, but he never caught a fish and gave it up within an hour or so. He seemed to have some buddies with -I hope there's not a whole group that looks at the Rum as a cheap seafood department

That is just sad. That is a quick way to ruin an already fragile fishery.

GKL - if you see this gentleman by chance again catching (and keeping) smallies. I would suggest calling the cops in addition to the TIPS hotline. The police sometimes will hold an obvious offender until a C.O. can come down and ticket/arrest the suspect - or will at least take down identification information and an account of the fish in the person's possession. This way, action can still be taken.

I actually just called 911 since I didn't have the TIPS number. The State Patrol had the nearest CO call me back. It seems odd to me that the CO that I spoke with did not suggest the police or contact them directly. There would have been plenty of time for the Anoka PD to at least ID the guy. Well, I'll be more insistent next time.

I spent an hour at the Anoka Dam, just behind the police station. Didn't see anybody else out there fishing. But I did keep an eye out for any potential poachers. Didn't catch a thing. frown.gif
