Since everyone seemed to recognize the island in the "Hat Trick" post.... I bet you will never guess where I caught this porky pike. tongue.gifgrin.gif

I think you caught it in the no wake zone....

What were the dimensions on that thing?

That used to be a great spot for walleyes when the wooden one was there.

Any body else see the Northern Lights right now.

I agree about it being a walleye hotspot in the past. Now it is just good for gas and water skipping on a sled!

BTW-I have caught some monster sunfish off the docks around the corner from there.

Alright... so the last one was WAAAAAAY to easy. I bet you'll never get this one. Where did I catch this nice spotted musky (ha ha). We call 'em Pike over here in WI... and they are much smaller laugh.giftongue.gifgrin.gif

Hey Mag,

I have also caught some monster pike in that area over the years. Many nice muskies around there as well, although they can be caught in places that many anglers overlook, not to far from the shadow of the bridge. smile.gif

From the background, I would guess the far east end of Big Bay near Big Birch and Dog island, or the north side of Pine island. smile.gif

Nah.. that's definitely Lake Calhoun. Can'tcha see the IDS in the background?

Seriously, though, I'd have to say North side of Big Bay, somewhere on the northwestern shoreline.

How big was that pig? Has to be one of the 2 of the biggest pike I've ever seen.

I agree with Krash. North side of Pine Island. I believe I caught one of those other spotted fish there a couple of years ago...

Silverscale.... you gotta have the picture downloaded on the internet already. Then put the URL in the pop up box that appears when you click on the "Image" button while posting. I've been using myfishingpictures dot com. Upload them there... then copy the URL info below the picture. I thought it would be really difficult... but as you can tell from all the pics I recently posted... its actually pretty easy.

As for that last fish... not too bad of guesses. Heck, I know where I caught it and would never be able to tell from the pictures. It was caught on a once "unmarked" reef (before Lakemaster) on the north side of Ely Island west of Nyberg and east of Potato. This was one of the strongest and longest fighting fish I have ever encountered. Dang... those pike.... I mean spotted musky shocked.gif know how to fight.

dtro.... was that fish from the mouth to Pike Bay???

Tom... I have no clue... but I'm guessing a back bay considering the low tree line.

This is kinda fun. Anyone else got some pictures to post. Its kida like playing "Where's Waldo?" Ha ha. laugh.gif

Hey Tommy,

I'd say Greenwood bay for No-fish and It appears to be the Fectos point area for Dtro's fish. smile.gif

That looks like the west side of Taylors Island, I think I know where that scar came from. smile.gif

Man, you guys are good at identifying the backgrounds.

It only took my wife 10 minutes to catch this 45 incher on Vermilion. Where'd she catch it???

wow, that does look like Fectos back there smirk.gif

Actually it is wakemup bay. Directly behind the other boat in the picture way back in the fog is Ludlow's and the fish was caught in front of the island with the bridge (Grant Hughes' place). Slip bobbering with 6lb and UT rod!

Magnum I'd guess somewhere on Frazer for that second one.

Ace

Not a bad guess but it's a little to far west. I kinda thought maybe a big walleye tried to eat that fish.LOL

Magnum

That's a tough one but I'll guess she caught it by the east end of the little island in your other post.

Krash. Big slick one was caught about 3 miles east of boom boom. Magnum - I'd say your wife caught that fish off the NW corner of Ely Island.

Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.
    • smurfy
just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.
    • SkunkedAgain
Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

Falls gone Gim, time to move to ice fishin!!👍

Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!
    • Kettle
It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
