Is the Collapse On?

Oh the humanity, the queens get crushed at home, scoring only a few garbage points at the end of the game. Daunte reverted back to his alter ego, throwing pics and looking lost.

Can the inevitable collapse be on us already?

It just goes to show how Randy Moss is the Vikings. And how much the double coverage he gets helps Duante in his passing game. I don't think the collapse of last year is on the books, but man did we suck or what? But you can't win every game and even the world champs looked terrible yesterday. It does scare me a little that the Giants started our loosing streak last year on the same week as this year. With our terible defense it should be very interesting Monday night against the Colts.

It was only one game. Why do the Giants still have our number? It was just one of those games where nothing went right. The Giants fumbled three times, and we didn't get one of them. The defense showed some good signs, but didn't take advantage of turnovers, etc... Let's hope this is a wake up call for the coaches and players. The next two weeks are going to be interesting.

If the Vikes lose next week to Indy on Monday nite, the packers will be only 1/2 game out when the two teams meet in two weeks.

Will be an interesting next couple of weeks for sure!

Hopefully we got all that out of our system, I'm not sure what else could have went wrong. Blocked punt, missed FG, about 60 yards rushing, 2 pix, allowing 30+ points. Oh well, still i first for now.

I went to the game. It was the first game I have been to that they lost. It was terrible in every aspect. I hear a lot of people praising the defence saying they did alright. They scored 34 points on us. It was just an off day for everything. We have not won in Indy in some time, so we have a tough hill to climb in the next couple of weeks. Especially with Green Bay going into the bye as hot as they are right now.

The defense did an ok job, it was the offense that gave up the points (turnovers) and the game.

I can handle one bad game and I knew this would be a tough one. Let's see how the players and coaches respond, I bet we see a very explosive offense against Indy.

I had a bad feeling heading into that game, the Giants have our number and I'm not sure why. We are a different team without Moss in the lineup and I see a slide if he doesn't get back soon. That Packer game should be interesting, they get us on after we play Monday night against the Colts and they will be coming off the bye week.... We need the Packer destroyer in our lineup!!

For some reason the giants do have our number, but then again, Kurt Warner has always had our number too. The coaches must find a way to utilize our offense without Moss. He is the best in the game, but we also have 2 other #1 recievers in my opinion and we need to use them.

We couldn't run the ball against the giants, but with Ontario back against one of the worst overall Defenses, we'll rush for 120-150 yards and that will open up the passing game.

Do you think we should sit Moss for Monday night and have him rest up for the Packer game. He needs to be healthy for the rest of the season, especially when 5 of our last 8 games are in the division. I don't care about wins out of the division until playoffs. The defence has been playing better together, but I don't think that they were good in that game. They did put up five sacks though. Thats a big plus. The only time that the sacks seemed to matter is on the first drive when they had 2 and the gaints had to kick a feild goal. Next week is a big game, but not as big as the Packer game.

Coming from a Packer fan, I don't think the Vikes will need Moss to beat the Pack this year. I think they will just emphasize the run, which the Packers have a hard time against and will probably pull out a win.Hopefully it doesn't play out that way.

As a Vikings fan I think we will need Moss to beat just about everybody we play from here on out. I think he is that important to this team (unfortunately). We may be beginning a losing streak.

They should sit moss on Monday, they can win without him if they get the run game going.

Burleson and Robinson are both great recievers, we just need to have a good game plan.

I got a feeling it's gonna be ugly this coming Monday. The Colts have lost two in row and are NOT going to want to lose a third. Plus they're at home... on a Monday night... against a struggling "Moss-less" Vikings.

Hey guys...you sound so convinced the Vikes are so great when you're on my thread, but lo-and-behold...you're all a bunch of wimpering Viqueens! To answer your question "Is the Collapse On?", yes...and that's been affirmed by everyone from the ESPN analysts to the NFL Network.

Randy Moss seems to be the surefire excuse...but c'mon, are you really only as good as one player?

Geez, the reality is that Mike Tice has impregnated that very thought into everyone's mind (from yours to the team itself!). Now he's attempting to salvage a season instead of having the foresight in pre-season to develop a gameplan that's not Randy Moss Exclusive. He has more weapons offensively (without Moss) than most other teams do. A deep running back rotation, a good blocking tight end (Sean Berton) and a pass-catcher in Jermaine Wiggins (both in Kleinsasser) and a more-than-adequate receiving corp. They just haven't had to be counted upon...and they're showing it. That's Tice's fault (and I think that Tice is a relatively good coach when it comes to the "X's and O's").

Oh well, such is life in the NFC North...this week I take Green Bay, especially at home, since they are 21-7 (.750) in their last 28 (November/December) games. They're headed into their "turn-it-on" stretch. I just hope my Lions can can step-it-up and play like they did against the Atlanta Falcons and NY Giants...then and only then, will they be able to overtake the Packers and the Viqueens...("no defense spells no playoffs, I mean..Vikings").

Sorry guys...I truly didn't mean to antagonize, but "BUZZSAW" stills owes me some beer... grin.gif

NOTE: This is the only reaction I will dedicate to this thread.

They are not getting the breaks right now, plain and simple. I mean the Pack fumbles twice, but gets the ball back? The Vikes will get theirs very soon.

Don't count the Vikes out so soon. They will win the division! tongue.gif

on the last kickoff how did the pack get the ball back after they fumbled. i mean the replay clearly showed that the vikings fell on it and the vikes came out of the pile with the ball but the refs gave possesion to the pack?

Last nights game was painful, I am really starting to get annoyed with Mike Tice. I'm starting to think that he is a complete and total [commercial-or-naughty-word]. His clock management is absolutely horrid and the defense is even worse. I am starting to think that he is more of a problem than an advantage. I don't care if last year was different, a loss is a loss, this is the NFL, He needs to win those games or get out. The Vikings are a poor team. The NFC north is terrible. I was totally disgusted last night. I love the Vikings but doesn't anybody else get sick of watching the same old crap. I knew they were going to lose as soon as they scored with over a minute left. On the bright side, Moe Williams touchdown runs was one of the coolest plays I have seen in Football, man did he destroy that d-back.

I agree. I've had issue with the hiring of Tice from the start. He's a great guy and a good football coach, but if you had problems with the way Denny Green was working, then why hire one of his assistants?

Tice has only worked under one pro coach, so basically he learned most of his coaching philosophy from Denny Green. It's become pretty obvious that neither of them can draft defensive talent or have a better-than-average second half of the season. I know they each have other things they do very, very well, but winning the big games has never been one of them, and it's pretty frustrating to see the same problems pop up every year. Every year they say they're going to "address" it, but it never ends up fixed.

96 trigger, well said! I don't think it's time to give up on the purple just yet. Back to back last second field goals against the Colts and cheesewiz on the road isn't horrible. I think the refs should be executed with all the ridiculous calls they made! Tice??? GO FOR IT AT THE END OF THE FIRST HALF!!! GEEZ!!!

I'm a Vikings fan but they just are not that good. They have a few great players and that's it. They will be lucky to make the play-offs this year and if they do great but it will be one game and out. It seems like everyone thinks they are a 12-4 team, they are not and never will be untill they get a defence. Defence is what makes a good team. Do the Vikes have a good defence? Not at all!!!

I have not given up on them I'm just not going to fool myself.

Go Vikes!!

A quote from cnn.com

It's amazing, and a little sad, that the Minnesota special-teamer Derek Ross actually had possession of the fumbled Robert Ferguson kickoff return in the final minute of the Packers-Vikings game. And Ross was down before the pigpile got the ball disengaged from him and into the hands of a Packer. Green Bay then moved a few yards into field goal range and won. That stolen ball, quite likely, is the difference between the Vikings having a two-game lead over the Packers this morning and the Pack and Vikes being tied at 5-4 atop the NFC North

If The Pack had a good coach they would have kicked that field goal earlier in the game instead of going for it on 4th down. What a stupid call. Then the score would not have been tied at the end. You Viking fans do not have much to worry about as long as Sherman is coach in Green Bay.

It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.

On the South Shore...  The focus for most this past week for resorts and ice fishing outfitters is checking ice conditions.  Things are progressing nicely.  As we remind anglers each and every year, ice conditions can vary significantly.  Consequently,  we typically will not make blanket statements about ice conditions or thickness of ice.  It is best to work through a resort or outfitter who knows the ice conditions on the part of the lake they are working.     The 10 day forecast shows temps staying below freezing and hitting the single digits many days.  Depending upon the wind, this should continue to build up the ice and get things started,   Some spearing and angling for pike has started in areas of back bays.  Work through an outfitter and stay on marked trails as ice conditions still vary, even on the bays.  Naturally, with Lake of the Woods having a robust population of big pike, some nice fish are coming in. As the days go on, resorts and outfitters are continuing to mark their ice roads and venture out further checking ice conditions daily.  Initial reports are showing good ice formation on many parts of the lake off of the south shore.     From many parts of the south shore, there is ice as far as the eye can see.  With cloudy conditions, a satellite image of the entire lake has not been available for a number of days.   On the Rainy River...  The river is iced over.  It certainly isn't ready for any traffic as of yet but the fact it is locked up is encouraging.   Some spearing and angling for pike happening in back bays off of the river.  Once ice thickens, a couple of resorts who fish the river will mark ice trails in their particulate fishing area.  The river has current, it is best to work through a resort or outfitter.   Up at the NW Angle...   The Angle is locked up with ice for the most part.  Fishing isn't happening yet, but resorts and outfitters have started checking ice conditions and the ice is progressing nicely.  Things are on track for a good ice fishing season. Watch the Lake of the Woods Tourism Facebook page or other resort facebook pages for reports and videos of current ice conditions.  At this point, reports are coming in daily. If you haven't made reservations for ice fishing, now is a great time.

Good update.   There has already been a host of idiots walking on the thin ice in the metro, with several rescues taking place. I read that a retired pastor in Duluth also went ice skating on thin ice and died. It's good to see that you're waiting a bit.

Lots of medium lakes are locked tight, big lakes like trout in colraine, turtle caribou north of Marcell are open. I'd venture small and medium lakes will be good for foot travel and or atv this weekend
