Was out today.

My neighbor and I had a nice couple of hours towards evening. Caught 8 eyes between 19-21 inches and he got a pig, 29" and 9.9 pounds. I let him bring it home for the wall.... Nice and fat, 18.5" girth. I still haven't broke 8 pounds yet this year, I'll just have to go fishing more, right? Definetly not the worst hour and a half I've ever spent on the river. I hope the bite stays on for a while this year, unlike last.

That sounded like a good day. I was out today and managed a few, nothing to exciting. The river rose like 5 ft in St Peter, since tuesday. We dont need more rain! Give me a shout if ya want to get out. Did ya get any decent Cats this season? 12.5 was my biggest, not good. Good Luck, Justan.

There here alright! I've been doing real well since friday. Nothing big but lots of 17-20" eyes and they arn't pickey either...shad raps and plastics of all colors.

Now we'll see how the higher water effects things.

WET NETS! wink.gif

Went down to the Shakopee area yesterday morning. One of the best trips I've had all year. On darn near every cast, we had a bite. Usually a white bass or sheep head. Only caught 4 walleyes, but they ranged from 20", 22", 22.5" and a 24.5" that went 6lbs she was fat. Jig and fathead caught the most but Jig and grub caught bigger fish.

Nope,

Moby1 and I were down at the Shakopee area. But I did go to Chaska on saturday morning and caught one small whitebass, missed a couple of bites and had something really big on a Thunderstick but got off. That's one nice wally you got there.

Hey Dennis,

I wanna thank you for having me along last Wednesday. Had a great time as usual. It was good to fish with you, as always.

Sounds like the water shot up a bit with the rains. If you happen to have some free time this week feel free to give me a call. The fishing should be picking up a little with the rising water as long as it's not too murky.

We caught some nice fish up at the Rainy, but the weather really boned us on Saturday. There was a pretty spooky thunderstorm that rolled over just ahead of the evening bite, and by the next morning the river was a mess. Thunderstorms in northern Minnesota in late October! What's next?

Looks like the "real" job will be keeping busy most of this week.

I did get to get out with my boss yesterday for a couple hours after work. The water is rising fast but the eyes are still on a good bite.We picked up mess of nice eaters on a rocky point.Cleaned 11 this morning at the shop before heading to work.

4" yellow Power Grubs and JRs rattel jigs took them all in less than 5 feet of water.

The river is starting to get a little muddy as well. There was a deffinate mudline forming off the rock point that we picked up the fish on last night.

I went down after work to where I have been getting spoiled this weekend. The water has come up quite a bit and changed the flow of the area but I did manage to get two before dark. The river has already come down two feet at Morton and has crested at Mankato after rising 2.5 feet. Hopefully this weekend will bring fast action again!

Its nice to have a computer that works again! don't know exactly what happened but nothing that a few calls to gateway and a helpful geek at work can't fix smile.gif And yes, Now I need to go battle the forces of evil on one of the UT servers....Lets see, where did I put that rocket launcher......http://www.unrealtournament.com/ut2004/ grin.gif

Ran down to shakopee tonight, caught 2, a 21" and 16", river is up and is definetly muddier than before. Hopefully things stay ok and don't go to hell with the water high. I have to say this is one of my favorite times of the year.... As far as cat's go (this year)I got a couple in the 20lb range, and lost a couple of bigger ones, one was the last night of cat league, it would have gone at or over thirty, but nothing super big this year.

On the South Shore...  The focus for most this past week for resorts and ice fishing outfitters is checking ice conditions.  Things are progressing nicely.  As we remind anglers each and every year, ice conditions can vary significantly.  Consequently,  we typically will not make blanket statements about ice conditions or thickness of ice.  It is best to work through a resort or outfitter who knows the ice conditions on the part of the lake they are working.     The 10 day forecast shows temps staying below freezing and hitting the single digits many days.  Depending upon the wind, this should continue to build up the ice and get things started,   Some spearing and angling for pike has started in areas of back bays.  Work through an outfitter and stay on marked trails as ice conditions still vary, even on the bays.  Naturally, with Lake of the Woods having a robust population of big pike, some nice fish are coming in. As the days go on, resorts and outfitters are continuing to mark their ice roads and venture out further checking ice conditions daily.  Initial reports are showing good ice formation on many parts of the lake off of the south shore.     From many parts of the south shore, there is ice as far as the eye can see.  With cloudy conditions, a satellite image of the entire lake has not been available for a number of days.   On the Rainy River...  The river is iced over.  It certainly isn't ready for any traffic as of yet but the fact it is locked up is encouraging.   Some spearing and angling for pike happening in back bays off of the river.  Once ice thickens, a couple of resorts who fish the river will mark ice trails in their particulate fishing area.  The river has current, it is best to work through a resort or outfitter.   Up at the NW Angle...   The Angle is locked up with ice for the most part.  Fishing isn't happening yet, but resorts and outfitters have started checking ice conditions and the ice is progressing nicely.  Things are on track for a good ice fishing season. Watch the Lake of the Woods Tourism Facebook page or other resort facebook pages for reports and videos of current ice conditions.  At this point, reports are coming in daily. If you haven't made reservations for ice fishing, now is a great time.

Good update.   There has already been a host of idiots walking on the thin ice in the metro, with several rescues taking place. I read that a retired pastor in Duluth also went ice skating on thin ice and died. It's good to see that you're waiting a bit.

It’ll hurt your arms as you’ll have to saw through that thick, thick 12 inches instead of 6-8. 😉

Lots of medium lakes are locked tight, big lakes like trout in colraine, turtle caribou north of Marcell are open. I'd venture small and medium lakes will be good for foot travel and or atv this weekend

thats sounding great. honestly unless we get a pile of snow i am pretty sure the ice will be in great shape by the weekend of the 13-14th.  i spent 10 days at the cabin deer opener...8 days in Wi chasin deer, part of me says i should stay home for a bit, .......but naw that itch is getting worse to hit da ice and throw that fork!!!!!! 😆

I’m seeing reports of up to 6-7 inches in the Brainerd area.  Edward as much as 8 by shore and 4 still out quite a way.   The big lakes might take that hit but I doubt the smaller ones will be affected,  Man, it turned fast this year.  This weekend there will be a ton of people out.
