for all you who know about keeping houses out on mille lacs, is there much theft? i'm going out of mac twin bay and was wondering if there's been many problems with permanent houses.

ManiacMuskyhunter,

I'm out of Mac's as well and would like to know the answer to your question too. Maybe all of us at Mac's can work together to keep an eye out for one another during the week.

So far we have been very fortunate and not had any thefts yet. My buddy and I have a couple 10 x 16's out of Lybacks and have had no problems (knock on wood). We've had our houses up there for the past five years and haven't been concernd. Mac's is a pretty good resort and you shouldn't worry to much about it. Although it does happen, there's always some "ya-who" that ruins everything.

I have a shack out of Lybac's and would like to know if there are any theft problems out there also. It's really too bad that someone has to worry about there shack being vandalized and broken into when they leave for the day.

Thanks.

I forgot to mention - I would not leave any of your electronics or fishing gear in the permanent houses while your gone for an extended period of time. Just to be safe.

There was a thread about this awhile back. Mille Lacs is pretty safe, provided you take a few precautions. Take everything with you you'd be suprised what people will steal. Leave the door unlocked. Putting up a big lock and chains are invatations for theives. Leave the windows open. often times they'll look inside to see if its worth it. If they can see that you left nothing behind, they won't bother. Mille lacs is safe for the most part although its common to hear a couple cases through out the year.

I definatley think that keeping an eye on other houses is a must.
It would be great to know that when you leave there might be someone keeping an eye on things for you, a little insurance it is always nice. I know mac's is a good place, but I know they can't possibly prevent all theft, really no one can. Every time I'm up there I will do what I can to keep those little (insert word here) from putting a damper on anyones season. when you're next to a big blue house that could use more paint, (never got another coat on, to cold earlier, but maybe i should now that its december!!), stop on by, and if I'm there you'll know I'm keeping an eye out.

But until those big houses go out good fishin.

ManiacMuskeyhunter,

I'll keep a look out for you. I'm looking forward to meeting as many folks at Mac's as possible so we can all help each other.

Anybody going out of Dickie's Portside? It'd be nice if a group of us out of Portside could keep our eyes on everyones shacks.

All who are goin out of macs or on the SE side, i look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. that'd be great to get a group of eyes watching out for the other houses. plus maybe we can share some fishin info too.

I am going to macs in about 3 hrs for the weekend. They will only pull us to the bay but it is a start. We have a white 8x16 with skids 3ft longer than the house on one end. Our door has been hit with an ax 20 or 30 times.

I tend to agree with leaving my door unlocked BUT, I am worried that even leaving my air mattresses in the shack would lead to slashed mattresses. I don't know what to do?

I've put a permenent house out on Mille Lacs since 1979, I've been on Garrison Reef, in St. Albans Bay but most of the time on the rock piles and mud out from Myr Mar. I have never had anything stolen, however twice when I came up on Fri. nites from the Cities, my lock was broken off and my holes were open, obviously someone had used my house to fish in. Nothing was taken and they didn't even leave a mess, but it still makes you mad.

I've fished on the big pond for 28 years @ Brandt's and never had our shack broken into, like the other posters say the most important thing is not to leave anything in your house that you'd miss even if your only leaving for a couple of hours.

Barely had time and data to post a few random daily pics!  😄   Iffen you’re self banned, how’d ya know? 😉   Sunday - Tuesday hunt near Yankton, SD.  We found ourselves there between two of the big pushes north.  Adults first, pushing the ice line north, slipped through a couple days before we got there and the second juvie push held up by the storm that went through the night we traveled.  Our best day was Monday.  Sunny and warm with a nice south wind.  Day 3 was cool with a stiff northeast wind bringing in another storm.     A select few groups did well with birds coming off Lewis and Clark lake but we weren’t in their path.  We packed up early and hit the road.  We headed north and found them between Brookings and Watertown.  Saw 100’s of thousands at the ice line.

Crazy, about 50 Robin's hit our yard!  Not sure what their eating but none are in any of the neighbors yards around us?  Had to cut video down so it would run.  20250319_175454.mp4
