Blackduck Lake Fishing Derby

Recommended Posts

Hey Drake - how are you doing? Was wondering if they had firmed up the date for the derby yet? I know Brainerd is Jan 18 & Park Rapids is on Feb 1st. I saw one post that you said it was tentative for the Feb 8th.

I have been wanting to stop by for a chat one of these days. Will give you a shout when I can. smile.gif

Last I talked with them it was still set for February 8th. They were going to have a meeting regarding the Derby so I have it marked to give the gal a call this Friday to see if they have firmed up the date and find out what the fee is and what the prizes are for this year.

Do stop in when you're up here! Have a safe and happy holidays...Woodman, enjoy the first holiday with your new little fishing buddy!

Just talked to one of the folks involved with the Blackduck Fishing Derby. They did firm up the February 8th date for the contest, and the time is to be from 1:00 to 3:00. They are meeting again this evening to get the rest of the information together, entry fee, prizes, etc. Once this is done, they can get the flyers ready and we will have all the info for ya. Good luck!

Walleye_Guy~As soon as we get the info (cost & prizes) on the contest we'll be glad to let you know the scoop. Drop us an e-mail and we'll see what we can do to set you up for a room, now that the ice is driveable on most of the area lakes folks are starting to reserve for the season.

Woodman~Hope you get into the fish next weekend! What lake are you folks going to hit? Half of the Drake team was at Upper Red yesterday and brought back eight crappies so that's a good supper today!

So, did anyone make it to the Derby today? With the temps hovering at zero and the wind kicking in we decided not to take the little guy out on the ice. Wondered who all went out and how folks did.

Hey Drake - made it to the derby and of course had a ball. It was windy and it was cold, but still enjoyed it. Didn't catch a thing, but one fellow near us broke his line on something. Nothing else came up. I think the winner was a Northern that ran just a little over 2 lbs. But that is how it goes. We will be back again next year with a better plan smile.gif One of the officials told me that they are going to allow shelters next year. That would be nice. Last two years has really been cold. As long as they check things out it shouldn't be a problem.

If they allow shelters next year that will sure help for a larger turnout, especially if the temps are that cold. It would take some planning to figure out how to check out the shelters before they hit the ice, but it sure would be nice to have them out there! Pretty good prizes and lots of of giveaways for the $10 admission.

On the south end...  Walleye fishing has been good all summer and is still strong.  Lots of limits of walleyes along with some big fish being caught.  Lake levels continue to drop thankfully.  Boat ramps are open and charters / guides continue to be on fish. Drifting spinners still producing.  Hammered gold, pink, orange, glow white, glow red or a combo of some of these colors working well.  Usually a two or three hook harness with just a few inches of crawler off of the back hook.  Good success jigging for walleyes.  This technique usually slows down in August, but this year it is still working great.  Using a frozen emerald shiner is the go to. Big walleyes being found, as a rule, over deep mud.  Jigging, spinners and crankbaits are all catching the big fish.   Nice eaters still set up in 15-20' outside both gaps on the south end of the lake as well as numerous areas of Big Traverse Bay.   Lots of anglers running north if conditions allow.   On the Rainy River...   Some good walleye, sturgeon and smallmouth bass reports from the Rainy River.  Water levels continue to drop.   Shoreline breaks, current breaks, weed edges and holes holding a mixed bag. Sturgeon anglers are reporting good numbers of fish.  Putting in a couple of days normally results in some success.  Holes and flats or saddles just off of the current good areas to look at. Up at the NW Angle...  Lots of walleyes along with a mixed bag is the norm.  Some anglers fishing MN waters, others boating into Ontario waters from the Angle and fishing there.  Good reports across the board. Angle resorts are located in MN right on the border.  Checking in with Canada Customs and being vaccinated is not needed if boating from the U.S. to Canada and not touching land, docks, anchoring, mooring or exchanging goods or services.   Little Traverse Bay (large open water east of Little Oak Island) still holding good numbers of walleyes over deep mud. Typical summer spots are producing.  Sunken islands, neck down areas with moving water and points.  With 14,552 islands, lots of places to fish. Muskie anglers reporting fish have been active with good numbers being caught. Various ways to travel to the Angle. 1.  Drive through Canada to the Angle  (must be vaccinated, no covid test required) 2.  LOW Passenger Service (charter boat service across the lake avoiding customs)  3.  Lake Country Air (fly from various Midwest locations to LOW and NW Angle) 4.  Take your own boat.  (Safety first, this is a 40 mile ride over big water)

I have been out four times this season since mid July.  I caught some smaller ones the first couple trips, but Saturday I finally got into some larger fish with my Father.  The bigger ones are tiger muskies in the mid 30 inch range.  I had another one on that made these look small.  We got a good look at it when it surfaced and spit the hook with a head shake.  Appeared to be 45+ inches, which is enormous for a hybrid.

I saw a fair amount of wood ducks and teal in the Rum River a couple weeks ago when I was floating it for smallmouth bass.  More so than usual.   I hear ya on the ducks though.  There just isn't nearly as many as there used to be, which is why I stopped hunting them.  Hard to justify the time investment and scouting that is required when it only produces a few ducks per season.  I used to harvest about 35/season just 10 years ago too.

Need to read bottom and mark fish while on plane   Marking fish while on plane? Is this even practical? At that speed, my guess is you'd go over it so fast a fish might show up as a dot on the screen. I've never thought that would be possible. Am I wrong?

I’ve only seen teal one morning on the river.  Absolutely nothing in all the evenings I’ve been out.  Hard to get excited about hunting around home. 😒

Public Administration in any sphere is a complicated process. In public service, there is a high level of responsibility. Every decision may affect large groups of people. There are many challenging points in Public Administration in public service. For example, public administration servants might face a lack of clarity or conflict regarding goals. Public Administration is difficult when there are numerous parties involved. Public Administration essay in public service should also be as objective as possible. There are voting sessions in various committees that help reach the objectiveness. However, if a suggestion gets 50% of votes among street-level bureaucrats, how should this be interpreted? Is a minor preponderance of votes enough to accept a proposal? The sphere implies a focus on societal needs. Sometimes the needs of the target population differ from the common societal ones. In such cases, public administration specialists need to find a balance between those interests. Bureaucrats at street level need to take into consideration many factors. In some cases, it might be challenging to figure out what to do. It is especially true if the decision regards a long-term perspective. Any public service organization has an established pattern for effective decision-making. Such models might involve many formalities. As a result, the process might be extremely time-consuming. https://proessays.net/essays/category/public-administration Related Resources: https://renkulab.io/gitlab/-/snippets/2871 https://www.ridesharetalks.com/?qa=356716/economics-essay-example https://gitlab.syntra-limburg.be/-/snippets/1240 https://forum.making-stories.com/d/296-government-essay-examples

Been searching for teal with hazel and Finn. We seen a few but not any numbers anywhere. I think I got a pond that will be good as it was full of rice.

The essay for international exams such as SAT, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL and IELTS does not require literary talent, but rather a mastery of the technology of its writing.   Almost any international test for admission to a foreign university contains a section devoted to writing an essay. Is homework market legit? There is a general approach to essay writing for standardized tests, which includes five main steps.   DETERMINING THE TYPE OF ESSAY First, you need to determine what type of essay you are required to write. Standardized tests more often ask you to write a "problem essay," when you need to present an opinion on a given problem, and an "argumentative essay," when you need to analyze the arguments presented against or in defense of a particular point of view.   DETERMINING THE LENGTH OF AN ESSAY The length of the text affects the complexity of the essay, the number of paragraphs. A basic three-paragraph essay consists of 300-500 words. It is referred to as a "short" essay in standardized tests. A "long" essay is a minimum of 500-800 words and consists of five paragraphs.   Each paragraph should contain at least three sentences. It is important to understand that it is not the length of the typed text that is assessed, but the structure and content of the essay.   FORMULATION OF THE MAIN IDEA, THESIS AND ARGUMENTS The main idea is what the essay is about. The thesis is what the author thinks about the main idea of the essay. Arguments are logical statements in support of the author's thesis. Each of these elements should consist of at least one sentence.   If you put these elements in order, you will get an introduction. You can use the wording from the text of the assignment as the main idea.   If the text of the assignment is formulated as a question, in most cases, the thesis should be formulated as an answer to the question posed.   STATEMENT OF THE MAIN BODY OF THE ESSAY In an essay of up to three thousand words, one paragraph each is allocated for the introduction and conclusion. The rest of the essay consists of the main body. For example, in an essay of five paragraphs, the main part should consist of three paragraphs, i.e. one paragraph for each argument.   In a three-paragraph essay, only one paragraph remains to present all three arguments, which makes it even more difficult to write. After a brief outline of the main body, one introductory sentence should be written for each paragraph.     The introductory sentences tell the reader what the paragraph is about. This is followed by arguments that justify the essence of the introductory sentence and examples (a quote or a life case). The introductory sentence, argument, and example together make up one paragraph in the main body.   Since the arguments have already been presented in the introduction, there is no need to use semantic transitions in the main body - all that remains is to set them out in the order in which they are presented in the introduction.   CONCLUSION The conclusion is usually the most difficult part of the essay. The conclusion should include a paraphrase of the thesis in light of what was said in the main body, i.e., an explanation of how the arguments support the thesis put forward, and a final sentence that draws a line under the main idea of the essay.   The clearer and more definite the thesis statement is, the easier it is to write the conclusion. Difficulties in writing the conclusion means that most likely the thesis statement is too unclear. In this case, you can try to rewrite the introduction and then go back to the conclusion.   GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS The main recommendation for writing essays for standardized tests is to quickly sketch out an initial version of the essay. If you run out of time, at least you will have a finished, albeit imperfect, product.   In any case, a finished essay is always graded higher than an unfinished one. If you have some time left, however, you can easily improve the essay with small changes.   Resources: How to write an essay What are essays Essay structure, writing style. What is an essay?
