Wonderin if the lake has recovered. Tried two years and didn't catch but a few tiny crappies.
Also curious if the masses have cleaned out the big gills on Pimushe.

We have not had the opportunity to personally explore Rabideau or Pimushe..YET smile.gif But we have heard from many fishermen and the forestry fishing guys about these two lakes and they are on the top of the boating agenda (as well as Upper Red for crappies).

From what I have been told, Rabideau has picked back up and is good for most all fish, northern especially, as well as walleye, bass and panfish. Rabideau has been stocked every couple of years with walleye, but I don't believe a survey has been done on the lake since 98.

As for Pimushe the bluegills have dropped in numbers from what they previously were, but not big declines. Again, there are walleye, northerns, bass and other panfish in the lake, and we will be hitting the bay areas which are suppose to be some good fishing areas, as well as some nice structure in the lake. (There are a lot of GREAT lakes up this way)

If you get Outdoor News, Pimushe Lake is the "Lake of the Week" in the March 1 issue..you might want to check it out!

Thanks both of you for your reply. I am coming up next week for a couple of panfishing days. Hope to get my grandpa on some big catch and release 'gills.
Have you been on Big yet this winter Kupcho?
Also Drake, how do you look for rooms next week, during the week? I always patronize those that help me out.

Hey Frozen, give us a call and we can set you up, let us know when you call your the "frozenman" smile.gif..see the link below to get our numbers.

Had heard back in January of some nice gills on Cut Foot Sioux, but don't know of anyone fishing there since (Upper Red is where the majority are going for the slab crappies, and others to Blackduck for the nice perch).

Also, we have a pamphlet we can give you which shows many of the lakes in the area, as well as a pamphlet put out by the forestry service that shows the different types of fish and the best fishing lakes in this area for those fish. Lots of great lakes to explore this spring/summer/fall!

Hey frozen, sounds great to come up and do some fishing. I've never really fished big that much to tell you a lot about it. Speaking of panfish, another good lake close to blackduck is North and South twin as well as Gull lake. I personally am going to go to big Winnie this weekend for some nice perch and crappies. Everyone likes going to red, I can definatly see why, but I like to kill two birds with one stone.
Good luck fishing and enjoy your stay at Drake!
Drake, I'll stop and say hi this weekend too.
See you

Those are some good lakes that we hear about, there's a LOT of great lakes up here to explore. Definitely pop in Kuja after the lake since you'll be just down the road, and you can meet the "mr" drake (if he's not on the lake smile.gif ). Some guys are here now who did good on Winni today with the perch, hopefully you will too!

Drake: Thanks for the reply, we are just ironing out the final details on the trip. You know how that dumb work thing is. I will call within a few days to finalize.
Kupcho: Thank you for your help. Both of the Twin's were on my short list. Too many lakes for just a few days of fishin'. Would you recommend ATV or snowmobile? Also, have you heard anything about Moose for gills this winter?
Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

hey frozen, not sure about Ice conditions, On the bigger lakes, there is 30+ inches. Some of the smaller lakes I'm not sure about. I'm heading to Winnie this weekend with my truck. I have a four wheeler too, but....
anyway, haven't heard or been out to moose this winter. So I can't help you there. The North end of North Twin is a great sunfish spot though. I have the same problem as you. To many good lake, too little time. LOL

good luck to you.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
