When I lived in Duluth, I used to take the road that splits Island Lake and hit up the trails. I did well when the #'s were up. If you are able to go during the week, you won't run into the hoards of people. Get a good map and head an hour or two north of Island. GL! -NS-

Many years ago when I was going to UMD we used to grouse hunt North of Duluth and S of Two harbors along the Knife River. Beautiful area and there used to be lots of birds and very little pressure back than......20-25 years ago
