Dark I was up that way about 3 weeks ago. Found two hot spots but could only fish one. It was a long night, Only had two runs, The 1st only lasted 15 sec, snaped 40 lb line in a hart beat, Had to be a big one was running up river in fast water. The 2nd had to be small, couldn't get the bait all the way in, You know I like to use BIG bait. Let me know when and where for the meet.

Jig my e-mail is [email protected] Ya I here tell of a new wood pile that I have got to try some time this year. It has been a good spot in years past, got to be better now. Iam sure you know where it is. You know where they tried to blow up that big old gray rock? Well I hear that theres a big old wood pile on top of them rocks now. Headed up that away around noon on sat. Hope to hear from ya.

There are two landings. One at hwy#4 the outher one is kettners landing about 3-4 mi up river of hwy4 on the south side of the river. There is a lot of good ground to fish most of it by boat. More log and wood piles than most part of the river.

If you check out the last two posts with the pic of the big flats they came from that part of the river. I belive that the only reason we have a lot of 40+ fish is that some of us from IA, have teamed up with a few MN river rats that belive in CPR. And we preach CPR to any one and to every one we meet.

Here's the deal Iam going to be at kettners landing at noom July 17th of 04. I will have the grill set up with a batch of venison sausage cooking for who ever. I have two types of sinkers to hand out the no-roll and the Flat bank sinker in 3,4 and 5 oz. I also can show you the rigs that I run ie, Hook size, both stright and circle hooks. Bait tanks, to the river and on the river. Bottem fishing or bobber, I will show you the biggest bobber you have ever seen that works on both cats grin.gif

Nightwholf will be there and he can tell you all about dip baits. And College he can give a lot of good info on fishing from shore on that part of the river (I may have to drag him kicking and screaming) also in the past few years this kid has become one hell of a river rat. Just ckeck out the post about weekend fishing report. Wambat is a sure bet to be there and you can see his first flat and the biggest at iowadeer.com on the catfish forum.

If your there, then you are. If not, then hope we can meet at a later date. The only thing we ask is CPR. If your going to eat fish then keep a few small ones and CPR the rest.

Well I was contemplating fishing in the bobbshop dealie but it sounds much better to be somewhere other than the mankato stretch of river that weekend. Last year it was a mad house. People everywhere and every place you could possibly think of to fish.

So yes so count me in I will be at the rat meet! I have heard many stories from dragon about the mean kitties that live up there and add in a no moon weekend. Sounds like just the right ingrediants!

see ya

Aaaa lucky, where have you been?? don't you know that I have that monkey traind!! Hes a fishing fool now. I just had to get the monkey fixd, so there will be no new offsprings from this one. It's Dark who you have to worry about tongue.gif

If you all have a boat bring it! 98% of the river is fishable only by boat from I would say about 13mi up river from ketteners to about 20mi or so down river.

Alright Jigster, I was counting on you to show up. This going to be a blast. The last two meets I have been to where a lot of fun, Getting to meet all the outsatnding and great rats that are on the site and all the info you get, on where, when and how to fool the big boys. There are all kinds of ideas, To bad Dark won't make it, The man is allways working on new ideas, Oh well Dark maybe later this fall??

Just4fun sure thin bring the wheel wieghts. I can make Bank sinkers out of them. There to hard on the no-roll mold. If I could find some soft lead to mix with it then I could make up some no-rolls for the next meet.

Jigster Iam going to start out at franklin and run down river this weekend. hope to be on the river around noon. Hope to make it down to hy4, then head back up for a good night spot. My cell# 712-330-7512

Several months ago, it was challenging for me to find at least 6 hours to sleep. Students most probably know that feeling: professors just don’t care. But after I found Proessays, things changed. I can entrust completing papers to them and have my life back. At last!

In a guide to writing sociology papers, the Sociology Writing Group identifies four types of papers that are based on data sources as the most common writing assignments given to undergraduate sociology majors: (1) The textual analysis paper in which the student has to analyze a text like an essay or book. The text provides the data, and the student is not asked to interpret the text. (2) The ethnographic field research paper in which data are generated by observing and interacting with people in their social environment. (3) The quantitative research paper in which data are collected using specific methods of data analysis and collection in order to answer a sociological question. (4) The general research paper in which data are collected through library research to refine a question and gather information to support the paper's thesis. Who are these leech and kettle guys going back and forth??? 😉
    • leech~~
Well just for the Halibut, you could try salmon or Cod! 😆
    • Kettle
I've heard it you nail them to a board, smoke them, throw away the fish then eat the board they can be good?

Alaska lacks the population of walleye that I need to survive

carp can be fun to catch!!

What's wrong with drift fishing if you have some wind? I do it all the time with good results. 👍
    • smurfy
In my opinion not one that big. Smaller ones if done right are good. But I've had 1 to many bad ones too ever get near a smoked carp again

I was out alone on Big Sauk Lake on Thursday morning. I brought some leeches and nightcrawlers in search of walleye. I was marking a lot of fish in the 20' - 25' depth range. Some decent sized arches suspended about 10' - 15' down, which I suspected were likely northern pike, and some nice arches near the bottom, which I hoped were walleye. I couldn't seem to connect with any of them and for a while I decided to try shallower to see if there was anything more willing to take.    I moved into about 15' depth and found perch. I could tell they were perch by the way they were nibbling off my bait. At one point they ate everything off my jig up to the hook and l was left with what was on my hook. So, I dropped that over the side and decided to to just let it sit on the bottom to see what happens.   I made myself comfortable and laid my rod across my lap with my hands crossed over it. Yup, I dozed off and in a short time I was awakened when my fishing rod was almost pulled out of my hands! I grabbed my fishing rod and began to fight the fight of a lifetime with a fish! Now, I've caught a few 36" - 40" northern pike and some 25" - 31" walleye and a few 22" - 23" smallmouth on my walleye rigs but never had I experienced a battle like that. I was getting concerned that I would run out of line on my reel a couple times. With my 6# test line it took me about 10 minutes to tire the fish out enough to get it into my landing net. It turned out to be a common carp but what a fun fish to catch! I've never caught one of these before. Lifting it up I estimated it was somewhere between 12 and 15 lbs. I didn't find any regulations about destroying them and learned they are not invasive so I released it.    Are they good smoked?
