It was fun heading out to the lake with the boys for opener (THE STEAKS WERE GREAT) but.....I'll take the river anytime smile.gif

Had a little time after dinner tonight so I tried a nice rip rap spot that usually works during low, clearer water and found the walleyes up tight to the rock. The Mister Twister outperformed the Wild Eye this time giving me a nice battle with a 7.5# Wally, a nice eater size and another big one I never got to see. I put on a Shad Rap and hit a 32# Flathead. Hit another 15# Flatty right before it got dark.

I'll be back to the lake next year...Give me current! smile.gif

WET NETS!

HEY DARK30. WHERE ON THE RIVER DO YOU CATCH FISH LIKE THAT? I FISH PRETTY OFTEN ON THE MN RIVER SOUTH OF RENVILLE AND OVER BY GRANITE. DO YOU CATCH FLATHEADS ON ARTIFICIAL BAITS OFTEN? I ONLY HAVE TRIED LIVE CHUBS/SHINERS OR CUTBAIT...NEVER SHAD RAPS OR ANY KINDS OF LURES. I DON'T HAVE A BOAT, DO YOU THINK I CAN HOOK UP WITH ONE OF THESE MONSTERS FROM SHORE? THERE ISN'T A LOT OF TIMBER ON THE WATER WHERE I FISH JUST ROCKS AND A BRIDGE. I HAVE FISHED THIS SPOT FOR MANY YEARS AND ONLY MANAGED TO CATCH ONE 14# FLATHEAD. ALSO IS IT THE BEST TO FISH RIGHT BEFORE DARK? PLEASE DARK30 OR ANYONE OUT THERE... PLEASE GIVE ME SOME POINTERS. I WANT TO BE HOOKED ON CATS TOO!

Leech, I don't know much about that area...Wish I could be more help. My folks live in Lake Lillian so next time I head down to the river from there maybe we can hook up. All I can say is keep trying bud! You got the right idea with the live chubs. Use suckers, bullheads or whatever...just make sure there kickin good. Most of my fish come from shore...Shore Works. The rocks and bridge area sounds like a good spot...I try and stay away from timber myself but it does hold fish.

Hey Jim, You know the drill! Remember last year? Same idea different spot and its spring instead. We'll need to take a walk first chance we get eh? I got family matters this week end but maybe next?

Randy, you missed my message I take it. smile.gif I had one nice fish get off and I caught one 23" 5# walleye. No Fat Boys tonight.

I couldn't stand it. I went down in the rain and tossed the Pearl Shad Rap for a while...It out produced the Mister Twister. I got a 6# Walleye and a Flathead just under 38#.

On the way out I tripped over two big fat Morrels...Man! The only thing missing was the Swedish Bikini Team!

Ok. We'll see what happens...

Tonight was a little slow. One Flathead not real hefty. On the other hand, I did put the grab on a bunch of big yellow morrels before I made it to the water. I also brought the camera with this time...No wonder I didn't get any bigguns!

Iam BACK grin.gif Trust me guys you don't want to fish with Dark. He has this thing called a monkey, and he hands one out to all who fishes with him. Don't know how he doe's it but he will stick one in your truck, car, boat or your back pockit when your not looking. And it could take two or more years to teach that monkey to fish. Belive me that is the only way that you can get any fish YOU HAVE GOT TO TEACH THE MONKEY TO FISH tongue.gif

Was hopeing to make it up this weekend too fish with college. But the outher half told me she had the weekend off and that we WOULD spend time together. You know how it is, if momma not happy no one is happy mad.gif

She has to work nexted weekend so will make my first trip up.The monkey has been doing good on the walleye and panfish just hope he didn't forget how to fish for flathead grin.gif

Ya, Spanky seems to come and go. He was nowhere to be found last week though! Now with the extra rain we've gotten, he'll be back I'm sure.

Hope your weekend with Ma was worth it! kiss.gif

Several months ago, it was challenging for me to find at least 6 hours to sleep. Students most probably know that feeling: professors just don’t care. But after I found Proessays, things changed. I can entrust completing papers to them and have my life back. At last!

In a guide to writing sociology papers, the Sociology Writing Group identifies four types of papers that are based on data sources as the most common writing assignments given to undergraduate sociology majors: (1) The textual analysis paper in which the student has to analyze a text like an essay or book. The text provides the data, and the student is not asked to interpret the text. (2) The ethnographic field research paper in which data are generated by observing and interacting with people in their social environment. (3) The quantitative research paper in which data are collected using specific methods of data analysis and collection in order to answer a sociological question. (4) The general research paper in which data are collected through library research to refine a question and gather information to support the paper's thesis. Who are these leech and kettle guys going back and forth??? 😉
    • leech~~
Well just for the Halibut, you could try salmon or Cod! 😆
    • Kettle
I've heard it you nail them to a board, smoke them, throw away the fish then eat the board they can be good?

Alaska lacks the population of walleye that I need to survive

What's wrong with drift fishing if you have some wind? I do it all the time with good results. 👍

In my opinion not one that big. Smaller ones if done right are good. But I've had 1 to many bad ones too ever get near a smoked carp again

I was out alone on Big Sauk Lake on Thursday morning. I brought some leeches and nightcrawlers in search of walleye. I was marking a lot of fish in the 20' - 25' depth range. Some decent sized arches suspended about 10' - 15' down, which I suspected were likely northern pike, and some nice arches near the bottom, which I hoped were walleye. I couldn't seem to connect with any of them and for a while I decided to try shallower to see if there was anything more willing to take.    I moved into about 15' depth and found perch. I could tell they were perch by the way they were nibbling off my bait. At one point they ate everything off my jig up to the hook and l was left with what was on my hook. So, I dropped that over the side and decided to to just let it sit on the bottom to see what happens.   I made myself comfortable and laid my rod across my lap with my hands crossed over it. Yup, I dozed off and in a short time I was awakened when my fishing rod was almost pulled out of my hands! I grabbed my fishing rod and began to fight the fight of a lifetime with a fish! Now, I've caught a few 36" - 40" northern pike and some 25" - 31" walleye and a few 22" - 23" smallmouth on my walleye rigs but never had I experienced a battle like that. I was getting concerned that I would run out of line on my reel a couple times. With my 6# test line it took me about 10 minutes to tire the fish out enough to get it into my landing net. It turned out to be a common carp but what a fun fish to catch! I've never caught one of these before. Lifting it up I estimated it was somewhere between 12 and 15 lbs. I didn't find any regulations about destroying them and learned they are not invasive so I released it.    Are they good smoked?
