You must of got the job because of the way you handled Westy. See , if I didn't light you up, you would have not had the opportunity to mediate the crisis. Congrats big man and good luck. I fully expect that you will be kicking me off the site when the jickies start pounding my metro ice fishing lakes. WEST

Thanks to everyone on here! I'm sorry that I didn't respond earlier...I actually wasn't fishing, but I was doing the next best thing: I was down in Springfield, MO for the holiday weekend and hit up Bass Pro Shop pretty much all day on Saturday! That place is awesome!

Thanks again everyone.

EBass - we are on for Saturday for sure.

BM, Are moderators allowed to fish with Non-moderators? tongue.gif I guess I could just throw your shirt to you as I pass you? wink.gif

Where are you and EBASS fishing? Maybe I'll see you out there.

HT - I'm not sure the exact launch just yet but it's somewhere on the upper stretch (otsego/monti). We haven't gotten much farther than that. When/where are you going to be out on Saturday? Side-note: I checked out jets like yours at BPS in Springfield this weekend! Maybe by next spring!

Maybe we should do a Moderators vs. Non-Moderators this Saturday LOL smile.gif I should do ok just as long as BigLake doesn't steal my fish...oh wait, BLB is a non-mod and would be in your boat grin.gif LOL... you can have'em, just be prepared to watch him pull in the fish you call up on the buzzers - LOL! grin.gif BLB - bring your own TP too smile.gif Totally just kidding - BLB you rock!

Eyeguy it looks like you've got the hang of the smilies wink.gif.

Congrats BigMike,
But I would watch out for that Ebass fella. He has a habit of pulling 20+" bass out of toilets. You kids go and have fun. You probably already know this but, I think the fall is the best season for topwater prop baits. "Heddon Torpedos in frog green is my favorite"

Again Congrats

BM, Moderators are only allowed to buy RiverPros wink.gif Didn't you read the fine print when you signed your life away?

I might see you guys out there.

Shoot - I knew there was something fishy about it... if only I had the $$$.

HT - maybe you could tow EB & I up river smile.gif LOL. I think we are going to try and the same float trip as the one we did in your boat for the gathering - just launch out of montissippi instead (cause of EB's motor - just a couple sections to slowly navigate vs. a whole stretch!). Are you going to be fishing with anyone on Sat?

I think BLB is going with me. Are you parking a vehicle at Kadler?

The river is up about a foot from last weekend, if you can believe that. That is the first rise I've seen all year. I guess the lakes are getting full and finally letting the river have some of the rain.

HT - you've got mail.

Yes! the water is up... That will really help Ebass & I navigate a little easier on Saturday.

Hopefully it will come down just a tad though before Saturday... higher water makes for a tough & scattered bite sometimes. How was the water clarity?

It looks like a BM/EB vs HT/BLB tourney! The early morning bite was so bad last week, we're planning to meet at Montissippi at 7am. That will give you guys time to meet at Kadler and drive up the Monti. Sound good to you?

Water clarity was dingy, but not too bad.

It looks like it's the "FM Moderators" vs. "
Non-Moderators".

The river rules 3.2.28 clearly state that FM Pro-staff automatically win. And as EB said in his email, 3.2.29 clearly states that all big fish caught by non-moderators are subject to being photographed with either EB & BM one holding the fish (no one disputes a photo smile.gif) No contest... grin.gif.

We'll see you guys down there. EB, we've got to figure out a way to get a tow up river from HT's jet boat! LOL.

Hey guys, you headin' out to the river on the 18th? Looks like I'll have all day open right now. No waders in my possession, sorry.

BigMike, e-mail me again. You should have my addy still (hope you do anyway).

Rule 3.2.2.18

BM, beware of floating debris in the river.
It cannot be used as bait either.

Let's see......
1. Wife is going to a bridal shower in Waverly, won't be home until about 7 and is taking both kids
2. Lawn will be mowed and my job jar only has three items in it (I don't like it to be empty, that way she thinks she's keeping me busy plus I need SOMETHING to do in February)
3. Weather forecast is for a beautiful day

Hmmmm, looks favorable!! I will probably be out. Will launch my boat at Ellison Park. I'll be all alone with room for one or two.

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
