Went out yesterday for 3 hours. Only managed to get 6 smallies. Nothing big. My son got blasted on his top water, and never set the hook cuz it surprised him so much.
As we were finishing up, I saw a guy catch 5 smallies in probably 10 minutes, a couple very nice ones, using a crawdad crank. Hmmm, maybe I should have tried some different tactics. I fished from 7 to 10:30am, and I did not see another fisherman until 10 am. Way to cool!

Thanks for the report. I've been having the best luck with the crawdad crankbaits myself. I fished the Rum River above the dam on Saturday. They were not biting well at all. We caught 8 smallies and 3 northerns in 5 hours. On Sunday afternoon, I fished in Monti for about 4 hours and caught 8 smallies and 1 walleye. No size to any of the fish.

I also fished the Rum Sat. evening, without much luck. 4 smallmouth with no size. I casted my box at them. With 3 of the 4, pitching jigs.
