Anoka and Ramsey Area

Has anybody fished this stretch of the river lately? Last time I did was a couple years ago. I had success with topwater focusing around logjams. Caugh my biggest smallmouth doing this. Anyway that was a while ago, what has been producing fish this year in this region?

The smallies are just starting to turn on big time. This time of year the smallies school up like packs of wolves and once you find a school you can work them for quite a while. I usually look for them feeding in deeper water close to shore, trolling down stream with a spinner and minnow just touching the bottom works great for locating an active school of fish. Once I find some fish I anchor and fish a jig and minnow combination until I am sure there are no more fish in that spot.
Seems to me like they school by sizes, if you find you are catching a lot of small fish move to another spot.
