Just moved back to the Twin Cities from Cheese Land and was curious where other more experienced outdoorsmen (and Women) would choose to build a cabin and why. Young family wants clean swimming options and dad wants great fishing (particularly walleyes/crappies) Would like to find something within 2-2.5 hrs from Twin Cities). Appreciate your input!

If you're talking the East Central area, I think Sturgeon up 35 by Moose Lake is one of the nicest lakes in the state. I don't remember seeing a bunch of open lots to build, but I'm sure you could buy.

And, the fishing is good for bass, northerns, and crappies. There's some walleye. I don't really know about the quality of the sunfish, but they're in there too.
