Was wondering if anyone had been out lately? Anyone getting any more of those 17 inch crappies, or at least 10? smile.gif Cory? Quit working and start fishing

I did get some recent information that there was a very good sunfish bite on the south end of East Rush. 3-4 feet of water.

That's the best I've got right now, as I've been fishing a double-secret metro lake lately for crappies. And this weekend, I'll be up by Bigfork fishing.

I was out there last weekend. There was about a foot of new snow with about 4 inches of water under that. Needless to say it was tough getting around. We walked out and fished the edges of the deep hole straight out from the boat launch on West Rush. We caught a some nice sunfish(3 to a pound). We were marking suspended fish all day, crappies I think, but they would just bump it once in awhile. Managed to hook a few of them but it was a tough bite.

Thanks for the replies. Gonna give it a whirl on Saturday morning, then hit the sports show for the rest of the day.

I can confirm the sunfish bite in shallow water on the south end of East Rush.....you have to be in the weeds.

Sometimes they run two to a pound.

Good luck.

Is there an access on the south end of East Rush? Is there any good fishing within reasonable walking distance?

I believe there is an unofficial access on the west side of East Rush just north of the point that divides the deeper north part of the lake and the shallow south end of the lake. However, I'm not sure you can park on the road there. That's about a half mile walk. Peterson's resort on the east side of East Rush is a little over a mile north of the previously described area. A pretty good walk either way, but good exercise.

just a heads up that if the one on the west side of the lake you are talking about is a driveway down to the lake Buzzy probably has his gate up which will increase your walk!!

Fished West Rush yesterday and only found Perch. The south bay of East Rush looked like the place to be but its a long walk. There was still plenty of ice , but it was soft. This was probably it for me. When this ice fishing season started out I sure didn't think it would turn out this good.

See Ya,
joe

Down to 38 in Wake Em Up Narrows this afternoon...when we pulled the plug early in favor of sanity.  Did manage a 27.75”er this morning among a couple of others for our Herculean efforts. ha

I caught a skinny 33 inch walleye out of red lake back during the crappie boom. I will get the photo as it hit a big airplane jig. I want to get a pike jigging.

City of Virginia is mandating conversions from steam to gas so all the contractors in town are swamped. Couple more local options Martys heating Malmstrom

That makes sense.......I think eventually upper red could turn out some 10lb fish. I pretty much figured this was a joke.

Kelly come on....I live by the Iowa Great Lakes.......and can say the exact same thing you posted. While people may not directly make money from them....money is being spent and brought into the county which was not generated in the county helping the county and people in the county.    I get the "trash issue " no matter what is done people will litter. It will never stop. It needs to be managed, the situation isn't unquie to Upper Red, it's just not managed at upper red like it should be.

What you are forgetting about is that a very, very small percentage of the people living in Beltrami County make any money from the fishermen on URL. Many of the people making money off the fishermen on URL do not even live in Beltrami County. But ALL residents of Beltrami County have to pay to clean up the garbage left by the fishermen. If a person owns property on the shore of URL how do you suppose they feel about having to continually be picking garbage up off from the beach? If a person lives 10 miles from URL how do you suppose they feel about having to pick up the garbage from the highway ditch in front of their home?

I never go to the south shore so I'm definitely not an expert but I think this is some type of "contest" where you draw a piece of paper out of a bowl or something like that and the "weight" of your "fish" is written on the paper. A few years back there were Illegal northerns listed in one of JR's "contests" and the CO's looked into it and found that it was just some type drawing.

The problem is they still need some ballast water on the Great lakes "When the winds of November come early..........."  😉
