I was wondering if the DNR has started stripping eyes yet at cutfoot? Maybe I am a little early, but I would really like to get my son up there to see the "GIANTS" It is always a nice sight to see. Gets my blood pumping big time.

The northerns are in their spring spawning areas, but I'm not sure about the walleye stripping at Cutfoot. I would think this weekend they'll have fish in the nets, but not positive. I'm working all weekend and have connections that will let me know if they have fish in the nets or not. I'll post when I find out.

They are getting everything ready this coming week and will start but they will probably be getting walleyes by the next weekend. I'm excited to go see those big pigs too!

I heard they put the nets in last night, but I don't know if they have any fish in the nets yet. The couple streams I've checked around the D.R. area only have suckers and northerns in them. It should be any day now, especially with the warm up we're going to have. As soon as I hear or see some thing, I'll let you know.

Thank you for the information, I live in Rapids but never get much of a chance to check things out up there.

There are fish in the nets now, although I'm not sure on size. I'm sure there's some hawgs in there. Hopefully this warmer weather will keep up, they'll really start running then.

Was up there this morning. They had a lot of fish in the nets, and some big ones at that. They said this might be the last day if they reach their quota today.

I was up this past Saturday. Lots of fish in the nets! Hopefully some of those big ones will see me again during the Winnie Walleye Trail! I've often wondered what percentage of 'eyes the DNR comes through their nets? I can't see that all of the eye's in the system head towards Little Cutfoot. I'd guess maybe 25% come through their nets? Anyone else have any guess's or heard a % number from the DNR?

Brian, Have you fished the WWT? I am planning on fishing it this year. I will miss the first one due to my brother's wedding but will hit the rest. By the looks of the results, it's a tough one with that slot there. If you have, what did you think of it?
I think you're right about the big fish. Look at all the fish that are caught on the big lake on opener, post-spawn fish who might have traveled but have definitely not traveled all the way from little cut foot. Some are still spittin spum. I can't imagine all the big pigs that are spawning on the big lake--winni and cut foot. Good luck this summer and hopefully you find some of 'em. See ya there.

Hey trapper,
I've never fished the WWT before, so it'll be interesting to say the least. I'm fishing with a buddy here from D.R. That's too bad you have to miss the first one! I'm thinking the June and Sept. tourney's will be fairly easy fishing. I think July and August will be tougher. We should try to hook up and chase some trout once season opens! Let me know!

I suppose I can leave those walleyes alone for one day. We'll definitely have to hook up and hunt down some trout. Caught a bunch of crappies yesterday. They're up shallow now. Those crappies keep me going until opener. See ya on the water.

Got out for a couple hours yesterday. West end of Francis again, several small sunnies but no crappies this time. Access is pretty beat up, need waterproof boots but the ice is holding up so far. Couple guys had an Argo out.

Nice @AlwaysFishing23!   We drove by there last night and were tempted to pop a few holes but had burgers on the brain too much.   I got over half of the bottom part of the list done today and 1 part of the top list done, which was much more fun!   A friends custom 6.5 dialed in.  Started at 500 yards and finished at 1000; 7 mph cross wind.  My favorite hits were the 4 inch circle at 550; the 4”x5” plate at 700 and managing a 12 inch 3 shot group at 1000.  Man, he’s got this baby down.

Wow the fish were on fire but little. I caught so many 4-7 inch gills and one 3 over 7 inches. Crappies were harder to come by and 5-7 inches.

Got out fishing this morning at about 9am and was off by 2. Had a group of good buddies join and ended with 3 limits of big gills (8”-9.5”),  (limit on this lake is 10 per person per day) 2 jumbo perch, 3 decent pike, and 3 largemouth ( all pike and bass were released immediately as they are out of season). AWESOME day with a good group of buds. Sight fishing in 4-5FOW made the action even more fun😁 if you were able to get out it was a great day to be out with friends, family or the kiddos.

We get mailboat delivery on Black Duck Island (east Frazer Bay) starting around the 1st of June through the first week of September. Other times, the Tower PO is good about holding mail. Aronson Marina runs the mailboat and could answer your question about Portage Bay.  Good luck, Dick

Great looking Golden Retrievers you gots there !  I’m sure Max is saying to Fred “it’s good to have you at my side my friend”  and if some of our teenage thrill seekers really want to get a thrill , let them go up to the Big V and tangle with a Muskie or two , it will cleanse their soul !!    Hey dad needs to get a Gibson Byrdland into Santa’s bones to accompany us on this song if we’re gonna keep on rocken says Max Power to Fred Fred !   ah the joys of not having to worry about ice out for the opener . Enjoy the rays today !   Bigfatbert over , but not out !!
