I wouldn't worry about it. I've had a bucket of leeches in a 'fridge since the opener without giving them anything and they're fine. Just change the water every week.

I've heard that you can trap them with some chicken livers or chicken thighs so if you're really worried about feeding them try that.

If you do put any food in the water, change it often. It can really skank up the water.

I've leech trapped a few times on my own and commercially with my nephew, nasty work, mucho stinky! He used to keep the leeches in stock tanks for long periods of time without feeding them?

If you keep the leeches long enough to observe that they are getting skinny, then feed them...anything that has some blood in it! I don't think you are apt to see that happen!

I would'nt worry about it, I believe changing the water is more important to care then feeding.

I just change the water and keep it cool. After a while the ones that get discolored I throw out. Usually can keep them for at least 3 weeks if I change water daily.
