2 teenage girls beat up mother at valleyfair.

I just heard this at work. That 2 girls butted in line for a ride and when a mother said some thing to them they beat her down, and broke her nose. And no one helped her. Is this true? What is going on with kids these days.

Not sure if it is true or not, but my sister was there yesterday, i will have to give her a call and see if she heard anything. If it is true, that is really quite ridiculous.

I heard the same thing this morning on KQ. Its got to be true if Tommy B. is reporting it! What an awful story, some people's kids. I hope the mother recovers okay.

NOt to condone their actions, but people watching and not acting is what REALLY concerns me!

I doubt those two girls have much fishing in their life!!! Too sad!

I'm not condoning violence.........

BUT, in my world........This will never happen to any of my family.........And if this did happen..........There would be a much bigger story about the impact of the aftermath, than what the initial interaction consisted of......

Pop taught me well.........To walk gently, but always carry a big stick........And NEVER, NEVER let anyone cross you.......at any cost........

If it was my family this happened too......I would be more worried about those 2 girls, because they would never see where they were going, because they would be watching their back full time..........

Just my OPINION.........that is all, just an opinion..........

I saw it on the news also. I can't believe no one stepped in!!! Had I been there, it would have been a different story!!! I'm so sick of the attitudes of punk*** kids these days anyway!!!

I don't know Jim W. I've seen some real clowns on the boat ramps anymore(must be pleasure boaters or jet skiers).
Juvenile hall will straighten them out. Tough guys/gals aren't so tough when they come across someone who is more aggressive then them. Dad taught me a long time ago that there is always someone tougher and meaner. I would like to be there when those girls meet that individual and no one helps while they got stomped. Most likely it will be their boyfriends

The reason girls like this (and young people) for that matter do things like this is precisely because of what the other people watching did. Nothing. It happens all the time. Most people don't want to get involved or get in trouble. Some of it is because there is always some left wing nut who will try to get them in trouble for "assualting the poor minors" (meaning the two punks). As for me, I dont' care. If I was there they would have had a couple of nice bruises and would have been face down on the ground waiting for security. If they prosecute me for protecting a mother and her kids then so be it. At least then I could live with myself.

I think also as our population grows there is less a sense of community and people are afraid to get involved or stand up for what is right because then they could be the target. It's pretty sad. People need to understand that living in a free and mostly crime free society requires you to stick your neck out once in a while.

Here is a story about valleyfair.... When I was in high school I worked out there. Around 1 am I was leaving work, the exit is near the back of the park so I would have to walk back through the park to leave. Well, as I was walking back a bunch of older teens, around 8 to 12 of them, were fallowing a group of 4 other teens. As they were harassing the smaller group one of the kids from the larger group ran up to one of the other kids and threw a brick into his head. Needlessly to say the groups all scattered on the kid hit, was knocked out. As I ran up to the kid, he woke up, all bloodied and ran towards the back of the park. Unfortunately security thought the kid was making trouble and they ran after him instead of the larger group. The kid was pretty messed up.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! This is what has happened to "our" country. (Please don't view this next statement from a bi-partisan political view point) We as a society have become so desensitized to accountability, and consequence that everyone is either afraid to help a fellow American in need; or they don't want to offend someone. I can't handle hearing story's like this anymore. It makes me so angry, these kids should be held accountable like adults and there parents should as well. Unfortunately our judicial system is to pansy as well to, even if tried as adults, do anything!

I was at Valleyfair this spring, and had 3 black teens butting in line. Every five minutes or so, they would cross under the next rail. I pointed it out to one of the young men who was working there. He in turn said there was nothing he could do unless he witnessed them. I didn't care as much about the budding, but when called upon it-the punks took up an attitude. I told the guy working there thathim he better remember what they look like now, because when they bud in front of my group, they are going to look a lot different by the time they get up to the front. (they DID butt in front of my group-but the guy remembered them thanks to me, I guess, and he made them wait till our group AND another 10 minutes went by.

This situation sucks and it infuriates me, it always happens when you are out numbered and....ah, I can find all kinds of things in everyday life to get an attitude about, if anyone where to take a stand, they would be the ones going to the pokey and those that did'nt do anything to help would be the ones that would testify against you...Maybe this belongs in a different forum, it's to maddening when you can do nothing about it!

there is no silver lining to this situation. an injured mom, her injured kids, 2 girls who will get off with a slap on the wrist, and a crowd of spectators who turned their backs on a fellow person in desperate need.

The line for the ride was an hour long; how far away could both the people behind and in front have been from this fight??? the last time i was there there was no more than 2 feet MAX either way. I just hope valleyfair doesn't come under scrutiny for 2 horrible, horrible people's actions.

Uhhh...fellas: what does all this have to do with fishing?
Nothing that happens in todays world surprises me so the incident you refer to is not nearly as exciting, or to the topic, as a tip on where the smallmouth fishing is hot.
Tell the other stuff to Dr.Phil.

I'm sure that I didn't see those girls at the state fair education building. I've worked there two days this week.

Dear Dr. Phil,

It appears as though the issue at Valley Fair has upset many people. What Should we as a society do about it?

Thanks,

Besides verbally siding with the women that spoke up theres nothing else anyone could legally do till the line of physical violence was crossed. We don't know what happened after the blows were thrown.
Our media likes telling stories without giving out all the details because it makes for a better story. In this case creating a buzz how no one came to the aid of this women.
Or I could be wrong.

What about Good Samaritan laws that are put in place to protect people who assist others in need? Any legal minds out there that could advise how this would apply? I ask because I doubt kids are going to magicly improve and chances are more of us will run into this situation(2 in 1 thread)and we should be able to assist and defend without the fear of being sued for everything we own.

Is it still legal to make citizens arrest? Never heard of one anymore except for my cousin, who owns a grocery store in GA. Does it to shoplifters quite often. Maybe in MN it's not legal? wouldn't surprise me.

Good Samaritan Law? Citizens Arrest? If the two that did the deed were under 18, which they probably were, under our laws, they could have just about killed that woman and probably got away with it!

You on the other hand, as an adult, trying to intervene on behalf of the victim,
would have been raked over the coals and cooked in deep fat, for putting your hands on a minor!

Had you intervened, and yourself been attacked and in the process of defending yourself, had to bust a couple of heads, life would get real miserable for you! It is becomming a liability to do the right thing!

And, I might add it would be a jury of your peers, regular people, like those that stood and watched and did nothing, that would happily send you before the firing squad!

I find it interesting that there was only a small amount of reporting done on this incident...I'm certain that it's happened before but I'm sure someones putting the clamp down on the story (bad press ya know). Took my family to Valleyfair last year for my daughters birthday with friends etc. the amount of kids that are let to run loose with no supervision in this place is stunning and this type of incident was just waiting to happen IMO. It will turn into the MOA before too long and then the little ****bags will just go somewhere else. Oh yeah, shame on the other "adults" that stood around with their fingers somewhere and did't help this poor women.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
