Pressure??? Using your barometer?

Recommended Posts

High pressure? Low pressure? I know what I consider each to be, but what do others consider to be high pressure or low pressure? Also, I not only use the absolute value, but the direction it's headed. Rising or falling pressure can be as important as the number associated with where it's at (IMHO).
What are people's thoughts on air pressure?

I've never gone by what it's acually at, I go by if it's rising or falling. I've had my best luck when the barometer is on the rise or steady. Get a few day strung together with it rising and your into some good fishing!

I've had the best action during rising and falling cycles and within the 30:00 and 30:10 range. The action has generally been slow during static high and low pressure.

When I start thinking too much, I'll also look at the moon phases and the solar/lunar charts. I'll figure those numbers with the hours that I've had good luck on specific lakes.

I'll also look at the statewide fishing reports and watch for trends in the conditions.

I like a slowly falling barometer after 2 or 3 days of high and stable conditions.

Great topic.
I am with fisky on this one.
I keep a log and aproximately 75% of my best bites come on falling pressure.
It doesn't seem to matter at what pressure it starts to fall though, just as long as its falling.
The other 25% of good bites are all over the board.Other conditions and factors are afecting those bites such as rising water,or the pressence of bait fish runs etc.
Pressure and all will give an indication of how the bite will be but, I NEVER check it before I go out. That just might keep me home, and I am usually happier in the boat than on the couch wether I am catching fish or not. smile.gif
