Father's Day fishing

Recommended Posts

I'm going to repost this topic in this forum to see if I can get some more action ...

Is anyone going to use their Father's Day freedoms as a free ticket to go fishing next Sunday? Or do most father's stick it out at home on their day -- IE. it is mainly a family day. On Mother's Day, I let my wife do what she wanted (shopping) and took care of the baby all day.

This is my first Father's Day as the father and I've been thinking about it but don't know if I am wrong to think this way. Plus, if I want to fish every Father's Day, I'd better 'break' my wife in right the first year.

All responses are appreciated, especially from the female contingent on the site. Don't rip me too hard, I just really enjoy fishing and don't get out enough! smile.gif

I'm taking my daughter fishing. Double duty. I get to spend some time with my favorite person in the world, plus I get to wet a line. If things work out right, we'll have a fish dinner too!

G_man,Sounds to me like what you have done so far is eminently fair. Taking care of your little one all day so your wife could do what she wanted on Mother's Day was a very nice thing to do. I hope your wife know's how lucky she is. Turnabout is fair play. If your wife were to object to you going fishing on Father's Day then she would just be plain selfish. What's good for the gander is also good for the goose! May the fish you catch on Father's Day be HUGE!

I'll be fishing with my favorite fishing buddy, my son on fathers day!
And it will be the second day of the Lake Osakis Lions Club Walleye tournament and hopefully we will have good luck catching some walleyes and win some money! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I kinda screwed up and reserved a BWCA permit (in January) with out looking at the calander and realizing it was fathers day.
So I am going fishing this time around. But it is my 12th Fathers day so noone seemed to mind grin.gif.

I doubt that I'll get to go. I'll be at church in the morning and then heading to my parents place to celebrate father's day with my dad. But so far Saturday is open. grin.gif

I let the kids "run" the boat and cooler on Father's Day. It's always a bigger day for them than me.

G-Man you may have set yourself a dangerous presedent. Mothers day is usualy on fishing opener. for some reason it missed this year.

I'm starting my vacation on Saturday. I get my daughter, my dad and then my sister and brother in law and nephew will be joining us. Too bad for my dad that my little sister can't join us. Lot's of time to spend together at the cabin. I haven't seen my sister for three years. She lives in New Zealand. This will be the first time I get to meet my nephew. We're gonna have some fun!

My problem is my son is just 8 months old. So I can't take him with me. When he gets older, I'm looking forward to taking him with me.

As far as the Mother's Day/Opener conflict, as long as I get to fish on Saturday -- I'm cool with that.

I just hope that my dad will go fishing with me. He is terrified of the water(I wonder where I got fishing from?). I was surprised he went with me last week on my birthday and he had a great time. Anyways, I hope I can take him again!!

I didn't get out much when my kids were that small. When they were big enough to go along I spent more and more time on the water because I took them along. Now they are 11 and 8, both love fishing, bait their hooks, unhook their fish, run the net, they do everything but run the anchor or the drive the boat. We have a ball, and I get plenty of fishing in too.

I sometimes let them bring a friend along and I am always amazed how helpless their peers are compared to them. Last weekend I had an extra 11 year old in the boat who would not even hold a northern. So my son held his fish for the picture.

My advice is stay with your kids on Fathers Day and build the long term relationship, but then who knows, mine could end up on crack and in prison anyway.

The thing about fishing with small kids, and I mean 2-6 years old, so yours is still too young, is that they need something else to do in the boat. Mine left me alone to fish as soon as we put one in the livewell. After that they were content just to watch it swim around until they fell asleep. They only fished a few minutes. Short attention spans.

I can't get my Dad in the boat anymore. He just wants to sit on the dock.

This Father's Day as always, I'll take my 80 year old dad fishing on the St Croix. We fish almost every weekend we can and we'll continue to do that even if I have to carry him to the boat on my back. Father's Day is special though!
