TRAILER FOR A CANOE?

Recommended Posts

Got my first canoe at age 20 and here I amm at 66 and I still have one. Always loved 'em. My problem is the tennis elbow I've developed over the years. It makes loading a canoe on car top carriers difficult and painful. Is there such a thing as a trailer for a canoe? I was thinking about taking some small junk boat trailer and making one myself. Anybody think that's feasible? I would greatly appreciate anybody's thoughts. Good idea? Bad idea?

Cabelas sells a trailer for a canoe. I think they run somewhere around $500. I thought it was a good idea when I saw it, but it is a little spendy...

When we go up to the BWCA we just use a snowmobile trailer and ratchet them down nice and tight. But yeah, it would be easier yet if you can just back it into the water on a boat trailer. Good idea.

I use an old boat trailer, it works just fine. I had to make a few adjustments on it but now it fits just as well as it did for the boat. I know what you mean about putting them on a roof.

When I travel to Ely I see used trailers set up for canoes for sale. Search the net for Ely outfitters and contact them.

Depending on the size, you may be able to find a used personal water craft trailer. Otherwise a new trailer for a canoe runs about $600.
