Does anybody have a favorite fishing game? I've been playing Trophy Bass 4, which is okay, but I was wondering if there is a clear choice as best game.

Now we have a topic I can REALLY get involved in. If you have a playstation 2 the REEL Fishing series are great. But these are definetely fun games.

What species can you fish for in the Reel fishing game? Is it like every other game and all you can fish for is bass, or do they actually have some walleye or maybe northern pike fish you can catch too?

That's one of the nice things about "Trophy Bass 4", while there are a large amount of bass, there are also most members of the pike, perch, and catfish families, including walleye and sauger. You can even fish Mille Lacs, if you want.

One thing with the Reel Fishing series of games is that they are made by Natsume. You can tell by the name it's a Japanese company. So some of the freshwater fish you catch are some odd ducks but you will fish for Bass and different species of trout, some Carp and many others. And with the 2 versions of Reel Fishing for the standard Playstation(which are both playable on the PS2) you get a bunch of Saltwater species. Quite fun I have to say. The company site is Natsume.com if you want to check the games out for yourself. If the link doesn't fly just kill it, but I don't think we have any game sponsors so it should fly smile.gif

One thing that makes those games really fun, is the fishing controler. I'm sure that reel fishing can use it. It's a blast feeling the controller viberate while actually reeling rather than pushing buttons.

Sega Bass Fishing Duel for PS2 is my favorite. It has tournament fishing, lots of different species (walley, small/largemouths, pike, bluegills, and crappie), and my favorite is you can do tournament fishing against other people. Might not be the most realistic but of the ones Ive played I like it the most.

For computer I have Trophy Bass 2. Its got lots of lakes(including Mille Lacs) and different species.

Well, when it comes right down to it, the choice between an XBox or a PS2 is preference, really. If you have a lot of PSX games, then PS2 may be the way to go. They ARE a lot of fun games for PS2, but XBox excels in SOOO many categories that it truly is a toss-up. If you like Sports games, go for the XBox. The best graphics, coupled with XBox Live!, maki it an amazing sports console. Also, the built in Hard Drive allows for near-unlimited save games. I have had my XBox since Day 1 (November 26th, I believe), and I STILL have "50,000+ blocks" of save game space. Kinda nice, when you think about. Plus, there's Halo.

And Halo 2, at some point.

I heard Halo is a worthy game to get! I played a Bass fishing game (for PC) a few years ago. it seemed pretty slow and wasn't much fun....Maybe they have better ones by now. I think the hunting games provide quite a bit more action.

I can't believe the graphics on the games now days! It isn't "Pong" anymore for sure! I have to fight my son for playing time...Good thing I'm the Dad!

Up until my wife got the computer, I always thought I'd have no time or desire to fiddle around with it but along came Wheel of Time, Unreal, Unreal ll, Unreal tournament, DuesEx, the Command and Conquer series, Thief, Thief ll...and of course the forums. smile.gif

I am patiently awaiting a good fishing game for the xbox that is live compatible. I think it would be so cool to be able to have a tournament/competition worldwide. I got hooked last year on Ghost Recon and would be embarrased to say how many hours I've logged, but man it's fun.

I remember there were some older fishing games that were really fun. They were BassTour and BassDuel. I see they are still available to download. You may need to try them on a slow computer but they still are fun. And only 85kb!!!!! Ah the joys of low res graphics.............granted I used to play it on an old Epson386.

Oh well...

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
