MNice....
When is it our turn to meet? After years of chatting online together, I think it's time. grin.gif First ice, you know the place, we'll have to hook up then. How's that new canoe treating you?

Cory,
Make sure you get it right up front which ride you want! He's been practicing his tricks! Glad that thing has grab-handles!! Howitzer..LOL. I kept expecting to see Lance from Apocalypse Now to be dancing on the bow platform and some guy running around saying "Never get outta the boat. Never get outta the boat."

All that I have to say is that boat of his is awesome - truely amazing what it will do in a shallow, snag infested river... the driver isn't so bad either wink.gif Seriously, Dennis is a great guy and a darn good river rat!

For those not in the know about Dennis...
He has an awesome River Pro boat that really handles all river conditions like a dream.

Dennis really did his research before he picked that sweet rig.

As for Dennis fishing and working...unfortunately, he's been required to work 5 days a week lately and squeexze in the guiding and other fishing in his free time.

His wife does manage to get in a few kisses good-bye but that's about the extent of it...eh Dennis grin.gif

As for Dennis, he is certainly one of the nicest fellows you would ever hope to meet.
His wife is a pretty good egg too. She would have to be to be married to Dennis smile.gif

I am very happy to call him a true friend.

ozzy! You must have been reading my mind! Between his guide trips, and the metro league, and the Belle Plain cat league, I did not think Fishead had time for a real job! Hey Dennis! I wanna go for a ride in that boat of yours!!!!! I picked up a howitzer that I think would look great mounted on the front!!!!!

Jim Where do you think the term Matag came from, dang reversals you guys like stepping into. Darn right you river guys are Lonely. smile.gif
I've meet Dennis and he's a good guy but after hearing what the River Pro can do I'd rather get into that Bungee Jump thing at the fair, Unless I'm driving. grin.gif
I know of a grab handle that would really get Dennis's attention, and if it pulled off the boat would stop in it's tracks. smile.gif

Duffman, I agree, I feel like I almost know you but we've still never met. The (new to me) canoe is great. I've done way more this year than in the past. Maybe cause it's 1/2 the weight grin.gif I was gettin way to old to lug around that 90# beast. Heck, I'm even thinking of bitin the bullet and buy a boat this year, with a motor and everything grin.gif

First ice, lake X.

Jeff

Thanks, I'm riding this now "TW200 pictuer wouldn't post" so not sure I can get on any of the ATV trails. Might have to sled by in the winter! 👍

There are actually 3 tree carvings on the trail from Soudan to Ely.  I saw 2 of them but missed the 3rd.  I believe that trail is the Prospector Trail #4 or #6.  You have to start from the parking lot on the Murray Road 2 miles past Soudan since several property owners on the old railroad bed didn't allow off-road vehicles on their properties.  Another option is to travel from Tower to Embarrass then on to Ely, but that adds a couple hours to the trip.

I've seen that caving on a few web pages. What trail is that on?  It would be cool to ride by. 👍

The colors are getting good. Beautiful time of year. Maples are full red and birch and aspen are going too.  I’m not finding a formula for walleyes. Best luck when fishing saddles and shoreline drop offs 10’ down to 20’. I’m using old crawlers, too, because a) it’s hard to find minnows although Northwoods in Cook has them and b) it’s been too warm to keep them alive.  We do have a change in weather happening right now. Wind is coming up and the temperature is dropping. It’s going to be hard to fish Saturday through Monday but the change could be good after that.  Good luck, you’ll need some. They are out there and you’ll get dinner but you’ll have to work for them. RLG

Thank you. Yes, weather does look sketchy but we'll make the best of it. Looking forward to the colors and just getting away.

Some more heavily fished lakes are tough ALL season.  Lake Minnetonka and Mille Lacs come to mind.  The water is clear, there are tournaments all the time, and the fish are not easy to catch.   That is why I focus my efforts on lakes with less pressure.

Was up Tuesday and Wednesday this week for a UHV ride to Ely.  Made it out fishing for a few hours those days.  Walleye bite for me was fairly slow but I was only using leftover crawlers.  Most others I saw were using minnows so maybe they were having better luck.  Fall colors should be at peak on Vermilion.  Weather doesn't look the greatest however. Good luck and enjoy the fall season on the lake.
