custom boat covers?

Recommended Posts

anyone know of a place that makes quality custom boat covers. My dad cant seem to find one to fit our new boat, so he wants to have one custom made. It is a 17 1/2' Bayliner. Thanks

------------------
a few things to remember when visiting minnesota:

~Go ahead and bring your $600 Orvis Fly Rod. Don't cry to us if a
flathead catfish breaks it off at the handle. We have a name for those
little trout you fish for......bait.
~Yeah, we eat catfish. Carp, too--and turtle. You really want sushi
and caviar? It's available at the bait shop.
~The "Opener" refers to the first day of deer or fishing season.
It's a religious holiday. You can get breakfast at the church.
~Yeah, we have golf courses. Don't hit in the water hazard. It
spooks the fish.
~Our women hunt, fish, and drive trucks--because they want to. So,
you're a feminist. Isn't that cute.

Caribou Canvas is the best I know of. They are in the Merrifield Area (Brainerd Area).

If your going to have one made, may as well have it done right.

I had my boat cover made custom by TRS Industries in Fargo - it is pretty nice, fits over the hull and trolling motor well. However, it was not cheap. I decided a long time ago that if I was going to spend $15,000+ on a boat then a cover was worth it to get a cover for a price of about $600. It's all about protecting your investment. I have no doubts that my boat will be good to go 20 years from now if I decide to keep with this one.

It's all in what you want - if you're near Fargo I still have a boat cover to give away - made by Stearns for a 17' Fish and Ski type boat with windshield. Just email me at [email protected] if you want it - if you're willing to pay shipping I'll send it to you.

Caribou did an excellant job for much less than the shops in town. Caribou's quality was the same as the others which is very nice for nice cut in the price.
E-mail at esoxtacklebox@comcast .com and I'll get you the phone number. I just dont have it with me today.

I second TRS in Fargo. Absolutely custom fit for my accessories (trolling motor, etc..) on my boat. I did not have access to a garage, so a good quality cover is a must. It was $450 well spent and this cover will last for many, many years.

I've seen one TRS cover that was absolutely neglected by it's owner. The boat/cover sits outside year round and after a good wash it still looks great. It's been close to 8 years at least.

Caribou Canvas phone # is (218)765-3418
They are located in Ossippee Corners which is about 4 miles north of Merrifield on Cty Rd 3 going toward Cross Lake from Brainerd (very close to Pelican and lower mission lake).

I had a person I used to work with make my cover. I does it on the side and has all the equipment at home. He gave me a choice of material and colors to pick from. I store my boat outside, and it is completely water proof. I drove to Lake of the Woods last fall in a snow and slush mess, and the inside of the boat was dry as a bone. I changed motors a year after I had the cover made. He removed the motor cover portion and made a new one. You can't tell he did anything.

Canvas Craft in Anoka, MN made my last two custom boat covers. They had fair prices and did fast quality work.
I had a taller than normal full top with dual front windows & side curtains/windows made custom. It has zip in real so I can close the Alumacraft Trophy 190 up totally in foul weather.

Mikes shoe shop in Richmond Mn custom makes them. He is reasonably priced and does a excellent job. He usally gets the covers done in around a week, he also has a locked fenced storage area to keep your boat in while he's working on creating your cover.

I had Rapid Canvas sew me a cover some years ago for my dual console with extra "pockets" for the trolling motors and kicker motors. It slipped on and off like a breeze and fit tight as a glove. Cost was around $350. I believe it was a better cover than the factory cover Ranger sold me for my current boat. Check them out at Sauk Rapids just outside St. Cloud on Hwy 23.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
