Thanks guys, I just got back from a long weekend. What a great weekend it was. I will post the whole story tomorrow, but our weight of 18.12 was good enough for second place. We got our 7 slot fish each day and just couldn't get one over 28. It was a great tournament and a lot of fun.

Here it goes:

Day one we went to My "A" spot on the Gravel. We were looking for big fish, as I pulled a couple prefishing. I wasn't to confident in pulling a limit of slot fish because I hadn't got one prefishing. I did think I had a couple slot bites on my "A" spot but never did actaully catch one. As soon as we arrived I pulled a 23 incher, which was typical for this spot. However, about 10 minutes later I got a slot and missed another. I knew I made the right choice of spots. We worked that general area for a few more hours put 6 slots in the boat by noon.

We decided to go for a win and left that spot one short of our daily limit and went to the mud looking for that 28 inch plus fish. Well, it didn't work out for us that day, the mud bite was fairly slow but we did manage several fish between 26 & 27.5 inches, heartbreakers to say the least!

I then decided with an hour to fish we better go get another slot. Back to the "A" spot and after a little work we had our 7th slot for the day and we weighed in early.

Day two offered the same unusually calm conditions, so back to the "A" spot. As soon as we pulled on the spot we had a double, one slot one out of the slot. We worked that area for another hour and landed 15 other fish, all to big but not big enough. This lead to a tough decision. move or not. We moved 1/4 mile to a different spot on the same gravel and there they were. We pulled 6 slots in about an hour and had our limit of 7 by 10:00 AM.

S0, instead of running to the mud this time we worked the deep water between the gravel and pulled lots of big fish but once again, couldn't crack the 28 inch mark. We were happy getting a limit of slots each day but we knew we needed a big fish to catch up to the day one leaders that had 2 big fish.

In the end we ended up second and it was a great time. I got to share my boat with my dad, who has never fished a walleye tournament before. It is days like these that make all the hard work guiding, prefishing and tournament fishing worth it.

Congrats Scott! I was wondering what was the hot technique? Where you guys pulling spinners or lindy rigs? Something different? Leeches or Crawlers? Just wondering what was working the best for you and your dad. I understand if you don't want to give it away, but thought you wouldn't mind sharing with the rest of us. Thank you, and congrats again to you and your dad.

As for the method, no real secret, leeches and snells. There are a few little things I do different with my snells that seem to make the little fish (slot fish) bite. That is a little secret I keep closely guarded though.LOL

We did get a few slots pulling spinners and crawlers for big fish but the best method for the slot fish or fish in general was the leech and snell. I usually use an 8-10 ft snell depending on the conditions. This tournament we ran 8 footers.

Oops -- Scott I congratulated you and your dad on the Tournament Talk and then found this.

You did a Fantastic job! So you could weigh 7 --- did they allow you to have 8 in the boat? What was the minimum size? Just wondering is all.

What MTT tournaments are you and Adam going to be fishing?

See you guys soon.

Thanks everyone. Vickie, it was a 7 fish limit with 8 in the box, no cull. We actually caught bigger slot fish then the ones we had in the box on Day 2 but were stuck with 2 14 inchers that we had kept earlier. The minimum size was 13 inches, but 14 inches was the smallest fish we found. Being allowed that 8th fish gave us the opportunity to fish for a big fish. Otherwise it would have been a short day.

We are probably done with the MTT unit the 2 days. Things get pretty busy over the summer and then we have all those tournaments in September and the RCL Championship in October. Good luck and see ya on the trail.

Way to go Scott!!! What happened to the Lindner boys??????LOL 61st?

If you ever need someone to pre-fish any of the river(pool 4) shows, give a holler! I know I can catch many under 17 inches down there!LOL

Congrats! What a Father's Day gift!

Jim I may do that. I just looked at the Calendar and I will be down in Red Wing September 25th - October 4th. The MWC out of Lake City and then the RCL Championship out of the Casino. I will need lots of prefishing partners.

Congratulations Scott and Gary! It's nice to see our local boys taking the prize! It is nice to know that we have great central Minnesota representation. Being from Richmond myself and knowing you and your dad personally makes it that much sweeter! How is the Ranger handling? One day I will get a similar boat, but being that I purchased a new boat this year that time will be a little ways off.

Keep on keeping on!

If you need someone to prefish during the week, let me know, usually available at least one day.

Paul, I will take you up on that for sure. I prefished for the Wave Wacker alone and only being able to run one line makes it tough. Atleast in Red Wing we get 2, that helps for prefishing. Thanks

Outstanding!!!!!! Thank you for all the information. Mykal and I from the board always struggle between gravel and mud. I seem to have better success on the gravel and Mykal is more of a "mudder"....

SCOTT
A BIG congrats. It must of been a special moment especially with pops with. It doesn't get any better than that. With the slot imposed the last few years for this tournament it's a anyones ball game. It takes skill and no how to get slot fish on this lake and a lot of patience. Looks like a lot of teams couldn't do that. Congradulations to you and your Dad, maybe I'll see you out on the water. I'll be chasing Ski's.
