Mayfly - Not exactly sure but I think some time around the middle to the end of September. I think that's when Rick traditionally picks his corn.

I'm anxious to get Buddy back out on some birds. We finished last season on a good note by getting him under control with the e-collar. What a difference that made! I'm glad I waited until he was a year old. It was worth all the aggrevation of having him drag me around for five months with the checkcord. We had three really nice hard points that day and he was very steady to wing. One missed bird and two decent retrieves. I was able to keep him back on the flushed/missed bird. He marked the bird and wanted to take off after it but I was able to hold him back with the e-collar.

Recently my son and I have been playing wiffle ball in the backyard using Buddy as the utility infielder/outfieder. He does a pretty good job of fetching the ball back to the pitcher since he has a hard time throwing the ball in from centerfield.

I have taken him up to the park a couple of times with the e-collar to let him run and to work on the HUP - left/right/quartering command as well as WHOA. He seems to have a pretty good grasp of what to do when I give him the HUP command with a hand signal and body motion indicating to him which direction I want him to go. He still gets real birdy when he sees a tweety bird. I can tell he does his dead level best not to chase.

I have also been working with him on HEEL, WHOA, STAY and COME when we go for walks around the neighborhood. Towards the end of our walks I can acturally take the leash off and he will stay in the heel position (most of the time).

What sort of yard work have you been doing with Luci? How is she progressing?

I 'm really looking forward to next season. I hope to experiment with some grouse hunting. Me and Spinach would like to make at least one trip to South Dakota for pheasants. I'm going to make as many trips to Rick's farm as I can afford. Hopefully we all can get together for a second annual FM pheasant hunt in Princeton again.

Discovered that Rick has opened the farm in the past as early as the middle of August for hunting restricted to noncrop areas.

Well as soon as you find out he is up and running let me know. Luci and I have some work to do before the season begins!!

Recently I have just been enforcing all the basic comands. She still loves to jump up on people, its gotten better but she is just so high strung and gets overly excited she just can't help it. I have also been working on heel and she is getting better. Control is the main theme this summer. She is doing great at retrieving. She is also learning to use her nose more too. I just want to get out on live birds. After getting out this spring it was so much easier to see what we actually had to work on. So until then I will continue to strengthen what we have and hopefully have a couple months to work after I get her onto birds again.

If Minn Kota doesn’t supply them any longer, you should search the typical on line sales sites in case someone is advertising new old stock parts. I have a 55lb Maxxum on my fishing boat that needs a new armature.  MK doesn’t sell them anymore either.  I did find some new lower units available and some armatures.  I don’t have the serial number sticker on my TM anymore to know for sure what armature to get so I took mine to an electric motor shop to be rewound.  The cost is about the same as a new lower unit though. I might just as well get the lower unit with new seals and such but it is really a wash on price and everything else is in good shape. Check more resources if you haven’t already is my advice.  Good luck.

Hello,  I have an older model minn kota trolling motor.  Its a 1999 All Terrain Power Max 44lb Thrust.    I cannot seem to find a new foot pedal system for it. Should I just get a new trolling motor? Thanks in advance for any help

It’s the greatest experience to take a kid duck hunting on youth day. There is not enough kids out there to chase the ducks away. When I take kids o rarely see another person hunting. I wish they had youth day when I was a kid. Stop being selfish and give the kids a chance!

I think that's a great way to do it.  Probably only takes a minute to put it on or take it off.

The guy I bought our place from had an 1/8" cable right down the center of the whole dock. I'll likely move towards a more invisible, section by section approach. However, the full length cable setup has been effective and not as intrusive as one may imagine. Really easy to fasten all the sections at once. May be able to see in the attached

Headed north to a little perch and walleye lake this morning. The day didn't start the greatest, go to take off from the landing and the boat porpoised like a mofo... Ah crap forgot the plug haha haven't done that one in a few years... The day got better from there, we found fish stacked up on the wind blown weed line... There were so many fish I assumed they were schools of big perch, but they were mostly smaller walleyes with some real nice keepers mixed in... Crawlers under a bobber were the ticket... They would hardly touch a leech.

Many of you FM long termers remember FisherDog from way back...he used to post all the time before he moved to Florida.  He was up for a couple days this past week and we got on a good crappie bite in the area, he is a Crappie Guru and man we worked hard but had fun...boated well over 100 in 2 days on the outside weed edges...many absolute Donkeys. Kept a few smaller ones so he could have a fish fry for his family...couple of pics...he's in the blue shirt.

Any action out on Gull?  I have tried a few times and have had some success pulling rapalas but finding areas void of weeds is getting harder and harder.  Just curious how others are fairing out there.  I am thinking I need to get out there during the day and try small jigs and 3" minnows as that is what have been in the guts of the fish we have cleaned.

I have a buddy that has a cabin on the lake and he will fish the walleyes over deep water and also in the weeds as they seem to relate to both at times.  Seems like a hard lake to pattern but he always seems to catch something out there.  Good Luck
