Hello, goin to Kab for the 1st time July 14 for a week and my family and myself are really looking forward to the trip. Looking to see if the eyes are biting that time of summer and also looking for any thoughts on the Arrowhead Resort next to the wooden frog camp ground that's where were staying. any thoughts are a welcomed

fishfan,
We are having A really strange weater year. July could be a gang buster, if the late spring season bite rolls over into July
it might be really good. One foreseeable problem, is the mayflies have not hatched yet and that could be a spoiler, wait and see.

As for arrowhead resort, its a real nice place and its a historic lodge, one of the last original lodges left on Kab, very nice.

Earlier this year, Arrowhead had some of the best dock fishing on the lake, but that is subject to change as are the winds.

Watch for postings closer to your departure date. guts

Hey Guts, I'm counting on the late spring bonanza rolling into July. Coming up to fish the week of the 11-17th with my 8 and 9 year olds. We had tougher times than usual on both opener and on Memorial weekend. You're right the mayfly hatch is the real wild card in this whole equation, but if a guy stays with it you can usually find some early morning or evening movement. I probably won't have much problem hitting it hard, as my 9-year old will hardly even let me get in a nap on vacation since he discovered smallmouth bass bite all day long. Oh well, I guess I can sleep when I'm dead.Momma says this is my vacation, but she always gets 3 or 4 books read, and a lot more lawn chair time than me. I wouldn't trade it for the world though. Take Care--Satchmo

Well most people use a fish head or two in the trap as bait.  Any type of raw  meat will probably work well. No need to purge them as they are coming out of clean water. Just boil the whole crawdad in salt water or better yet in a Cajun mix! The tails are about the only part worth messing with. Cliff

I live on Little Cormorant Lake, I believe sometime next week that it will be open.  The lakes out there are changing fast!

we got a lot snow down in the twin cities than up north and temps are a lot higher than it was in 2013.   I think we will have enough open water to fish the opener.   No one needs to cancel!  I HOPE any way

what do you use for bait?  I heard you can't use left over fish guts.   do you have to soak them?  sorry not sure what that process is called.

meerkat, Many people eat the rusties. Very tasty but like walleye wings it takes a lot for a meal! Cliff

I just got an e-mail from Brent Flatten in the Tower Fisheries Office stating that they hope to get the Dock in by Monday if the river clears of ice. Will set the trap nets on Tuesday and the first net lift will be on Wednesday. They may even collect eggs Wednesday if there are enough ripe females. Very good news! Thanks for your update Brent! I would imagine the man made pepin connected to the sippi is open not the actual lake pepin?
