Resorts on/near Osakis for Opener

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any suggestions for resorts on or near Osakis for the Opener?

How busy is Osakis during the opener? What is the walleye forecast for the coming year?

thanks,

The only Minnesota Twins fan in Chicago..

If you're set on Osakis...you got kids under 8 with you? If so, reply with an e-mail address as well.

ChicagoTwinsFan,

My parents have been on the lake for years and Osakis is a great fishing lake for many different types of fish. However, most years not every year. Osakis doesn't produce large numbers of walleye early in the season.

Most people would agree that when fishing Osakis for walleye late May through July are the best months.

Crappies and Sunnies are a different story but you didn't inquire about those. As far as resorts go to the web and look under Lake Osakis or Osakis Mn to find them.

Take Care

I'll have to agree! My family has had a cabin on the lake for my hole 24 years of life and opener just isn't the time to fish Osakis. This year I'll even say it will be worse as its turning to be a late spring. My pops and I decide the sand on the big lake of mille lacs and then Osakis there on after.

Even if Osakis is fickle on the opener, there are plenty of lakes in our area that may offer a better bite....all within easy trailer distance from Osakis. Depending how late ice-out is, and how fast things warm up...some of the shallower prairied lake will do well on opener...there are several small sleepers that won't draw the crowds, too...lots of choices...a great area for opening weekend!

Are there any inlets/outlets, creeks flowing in on Osakis? If so what part of the lake are they on?

There are several inlet/outlets on Osakis...Curtis creek flows into Miller bay on the north end. There is an outlet to the Long Prairie River flowing out of Coonhoven bay..also to the north. There's a little inlet from littl osakis flowing under county road ten into Manthey's bay. and the Sauk river flows out of Lake Osakis on the east shore just south of Johnson Point. There are also several inlets along the west shore, peterson bay area..

hope this helps...

I agree, I fished the lake on the opener for about 10 years and had very little luck with eyes. pike are o.k Can find good crappie action by the outlets last year took my my god son out. we went between big and little off shore and cought a limit for one.
goodluck. I would not put to much time in for eyes. I did does not seem to pay.

We have a resort on Osakis, and the fishing can be good and can be bad on opener, crappie fishing is usually great and walleye fishing depends on how the spring goes. We have openening for the opener, if interested, call or email. Thanks

If you live on the lake from what I have seen and heard they put the boasts ok n when nobody is at the ramp checking. So much for the great inspection, no decontamination after leaving the lake, that's a major issue I see. So far I have not seen any of the inspection crew at other lakes. Nobody on Constance, Buffalo or South ramp of Maple lake.

Has been pretty slow lately. One night you do decent then the next nothing. Very hit or miss.

Aren't there some great spots along the Mississippi south of the TC? I'm not familiar with that part of the state but it seems I've heard things.

      Is the night bite going?

I would surmise the slop bays across from the resort would be good for largies.  Crappies, next bay down from resort to the right of the point with the giant mansion on it.     Smallies, any rocky shoreline or rock pile, for example  Windsock Island and vicinity. Pike, various weedy areas mostly although I have never had much luck deep in the slop.      Maybe some of the folks who go the LOR will chime in.   At least you didn't ask where to catch walleye on the west end. 😊

Went out Walleye fishing Saturday night and I caught this beauty. Measured 45 1/4" and estimated weight of close to 30#'s. Fought it for over 40 minutes. Caught on 6 pound line with a #4 hook. What an epic battle.

Going for some largemouth on pike lake near duluth tomorrow if I could get some advice that would be nice. Never fished it before

So island was kind of a bust when I went a few weekends ago. It could be the fishermen or could be just bad fishing

I know all those areas well.  I'm a Parsippany~ish kid myself.  Traffic did suck when the commute was 40 one way- now just 5.5, all backroads. @Wanderer Hey for boat rentals a license isn't needed?  I have my NJ boat lisc, but doubt they'd honor it.... To ALL!  Thanks for all the replies and help here... sooo looking forward to the trip. I will  indeed look closer as the time draws nearer, and omg, I would love to be a boat buddy (we say boat b!tch), and consider this my "ask".. Thanks again fellas! Tight lines!   Mr Mayor
