I agree 110%. Seven special prayers were said last nite alone at our home, gotta help the little ones with their prayers. My little girl is very concerned for the little boy in the hospital her prayer was at least 10 minutes long. It amazes me how many things I take for granted everyday and don't even think twice about them. Labs, you have a huge prayer chain going for you and your entire family and it will continue on as needed and then some. God Bless!

Labs and Family-

"Some times my life just don't make sense at all. When the mo*ntains look so big, and my faith just seems so small. So hold me Jesus, cause I'm shaking like a leaf- you have been King of my glory, won't you be my prince of peace?"-Rich Mullins

That song carried my Wife and I while our son was being airlifted to the Childrens hospital in Minneapolis a few years ago. We followed a pastors car in numb shock to get to the hospitol from work that day. We didn't understand any of the "hows" or "whys" at the time but I know now that the prayers of others strengthened us during that time.
When we stood back and let God work he delivered just as he promised us he would. My prayers are with your family now. Together, we will not except anything but a full recovery for your little buddy. Sorry I didn't respond sooner-TROY

You guys are the greatest!!!!Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I'm writing this on my one hour break I took from the hospital.

Since yesterday most things have gone down hill, frown.gif We had the priest in last night to give Zach the annointing of the sick. frown.gif Though the Doc's have tried to remain positive and said we'll get through this, his prognosis isn't the greatest. We have one little glimmer of hope and right now we are clinging to it like you can't believe!

I'll take a moment to tell you Zach's story...
Zach has had uncontrollable epilepsy since he was 4 months old, he averages about 150 seizures a day (though quite small, lasting 3-10 seconds). He's been on EVERY seizure med that's been produced with little or no results. Last fall we had a device that is basically a pace maker for his brain implanted and it actually worked on reducing his seizures down to 10 a day for about 2 months. About every two years he has an episode of tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal) which we've been able to break using valium with little incidence. School called Tues. and asked Cindy to pick up Zach as he had a 4 minute seizure. When she got home he had another and she gave him a dose of valium, and he had another, and she gave him a second dose. He still wouldn't break so his nuerologist wanted him brought by ambulance to the hospital, all told the first twelve hours he "showed" 25-30 siezures. When he finally got hooked up to an EEG, they realized he was in status (NON-stop seizure activity) though they weren't all "showing". He remained in status from Tues afternoon till this morning. We couldn't break them for more than 2-3 hours and sometimes they'd go for up to 3-5 hours. After putting him on the edge with his Meds. they decided today they had to vent him and put him in a drug induced coma today to try and "cool" his brain and break the chain of seizures. I'm giving you a shortened version of everything that's happened in 2 days, but it literally was our last stand. frown.gif If this didn't work there really is not much left for us to try...The one glimmer we have is at 6:00, the doc's come in and decided we had him in to deep a coma and backed him off 3 levels of his med (about 1/3), and so far they haven't started back up! smile.gif He's still in a coma and tomorrow they'll back off the med some more. So keep your fingers crossed!!!! They need to get him off this med within 48 hours, so we should know where we'll stand after that. He's critical but stable right now. He really is a fighter! He can baffle the best specialist in the Hospital, They couldn't believe with the amount of meds on board that he was still breathing on his own this morning!, and with the amount of seizures he's had in the last 2 days that his brain hasn't given up yet!

I really can't find enough words to thank all of you, while I know alot of you, there are some I still haven't had the pleasure of meeting, but someday I'd like to say I've met all of you. I literally owe each of you a debt of gratitiude for the outpouring of prayers and thoughts you've given my family! If there is anything I can do to re-pay you I will find a way...

Let's all keep praying that Zachary finds the strength to baffle the doc's one more time!

Thanks for listening........Ken

Ken,

Thanks for the update.

Last night Lindsey (one of the five year old twins), said her prayers and added at the end... "and god bless that crappie boy and make him feel better."

She's got some pull, so let's all keep it up.

God Bless.

LABS4ME: It has taken me awhile to be able to respond to your request, at least in writing. I and my family, are praying so hard, that your son makes it. I truely believe he will!!!!! LABS, if the Lord saved my sinning butt 35 years ago, this same Lord will listen to all of our pleas!! I cannot understand what you and the rest of your family are going through, my children are grown and out of the house, but if something would happen to one of them, I'm not sure I could be as brave as you and your wife seem to be. LABS,if I could, I would take your son's malady gladly in order for him to have a some real time in years with a loving family such as yours.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
