I am definately going to come up to Leech this year. But I'm not at all familiar with
the big lake. I'll probably be up that way sometime in late june. Any advice for a first-timer? I do have a map with GPS coordinates on it. Thanks!!! grin.gif

grin.gif Sorry! I will probably be in Walker or up by the Dam. If I'm staying in Hackensack
at Deer Acres Resort, it will be Walker.
If I'm Staying with my bud in Grand Rapids,
It'll be by the dam. Hope this clarifies
things.

If it's up by the dam, refer to the other thread about that area. All those spots are great, especially right in front of the old Silver Hook Resort. Also, between Battle and Sugar Points and between Battle Point and Bear Island. As for the south side, that's out of my territory, maybe someone else can help you with that one.
------------------
>"////=<
Gull Guide Service
fishingminnesota.com/gullguide
Brainerd-Mille Lacs-Willmar
Bemidji-Ottertail

If you start out in walker bay the first place you will want to look is the deep reefs in walker Bay. Some of the maps show quite a few with GPS coordinates. They should be just starting to turn on this time off year. The sand flats between sand point and the narrows is also a good bet. If you don't have much luck in walker Bay the first day don't be afraid to take a right in stead of a left at the casino and launch down by whipholt and fish the many reefs on the south end of the lake. This area is my favorite section of the lake in June. Good luck on the water.
------------------
Big Rock Guide Service
http://bigrockresort.com/guides.html
E-mail: [email protected]
Call Toll Free: 1-800-827-7106

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
