Leech in late June

I will be fishing Leech Lake the last week in June. What kind of fishing should i expect and what methods of fishing should I use, i.e. vertical jig, trolling, etc. It's been 5 years since I last fished in Minnesota but I've never fished this late in June. Would it be a good idea to hire a guide? Thanks!
