Will someone at least make something good up! smile.gif

Ok, before you read through 3 pages of posts looking for real fish reports, this was only meant for humor. If your not into that you may be disapointed.

With the kinds of things that happen in "the URL triangle" we need to make anything up? This gets better then fiction. grin.gif
I haven't even looked at the lake yet so I really cann't say anything about how it is going out there.

being that the moon is in the second half of the third phase of polar flux reduction(which has never happened this early in the season), we can only assume that the force which feeds the url triangle is stronger than ever. i think nothing short of lead body suits would be in order. which i just happen to have. while the rest of you are getting bounced and turned around all winter, i will be comfortabley facing the right direction at all times. of course i wont be able to move,or even get up off the ice for that matter, but what's new smile.gif good luck all, and may the force be with you!

Jiggle , you go with the led suit! I prefer the tinfoil hat to guard against the alien rays.

P.S. That Rem. 700 put some meat in the freezer.

reflecting off of the captain morgan bumper
sticker on the (6 point lodge) grin.gif
Or maybe rays from the dredded triangle.

ST, need a good fishing story, then check out the TRF & NW MN forum, Bronson reports. The Bronsonites had everybody going until Rick grounded them, sounded like the fella that claimed he caught a 56 incher on URL last spring. The fish stories never end, tight lines to all. <((((>< tnt

p.s. have you been listening to Jefferson Airplane, white rabbit?

Ya there were in concert on pbs again last night again. I would share a sleeper on red lake with Stevie Nicks any day. She can tell me lies all night long. Jiggle you aint no spring chicken and all those red lake triangle encounters arent makin you any younger either. I like Jonhnny Cash too but I aint that old. Anyway im still quick enough to jump out of the way of that red barn thats gonna come roarin down the lake as soon as kelly decides its time to unleash the beast. And I sure as heck aint gonna leave my minnow bucket sittin there for him to run over either. LMAO I heard kelly's 10x20 shack is really a covered "Bridge from Madison County" and hes going to put it over the presure ridge and pose for pictures while charging 5 bucks a pop.

I keep aluminum securely in one hand. I make sure there is liquid involved. This not only protects me from the forces that be but keeps me well grounded!!!

Hey don't knock the "big red barn", it's gonna be the biggest portable to ever hit URL. Nothing on URL could ever move this fast cause the aliens are helping cause it's also their hanger.

CANOPY SAM,
People are just barely on the lake. Nobody knows what is going on yet. We cann't report on what we do not know unless we lie. Like the first post of this topic said, "Will someone at least make something good up".
There were reports of someone in a lead body suit standing on the bottom in 3 feet of water looking longingly out towards the 14 foot depth. We're gonna mount the beacon on his head when the roads get out.

Isn't going out and finding the fish yourself part of the fun in fishing???? If you want people to bring you to the fish you might as well go to Byerly's and buy it.

HOGEYE,
You have to realize that very few people are even looking for the crappies yet. URL is BIG,,,, it takes awhile for people to find them. Time and time again last year 20 feet was the difference between being skunked or limiting out. It takes a lot of holes and a lot of people to find the crappies. It isn't automatic.
No one was even on the lake at this time last year. If you are wondering if they are biting either go out and try it yourself or have some patience. In my case I do not even plan on going out there for 1 1/2 weeks so I cann't be giving any fishing reports.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
