truck went threw today on leech with 4 people and 2 did not make it out

ya i heard about that 2 kids made it out of the water and the other 2 dads or something like that did not. wonder how much ice?<BR>30 feet of water?

The 2 boys went out the back window and into the box and jumped on the ice and didn't even get wet. There were people who saw it go threw and didn't even go over to help and that is pretty sad, what kind of people can they be.

i am curious where it happened. i had heard stoney point? also and mostly, what was the malfunction. current? crack in the ice? did they drive into a pressure ridge? i find it hard to believe they just fell through 30+ inches of solid ice. i feel real bad for those boys and there family's. what a terrible ordeal.---jigglestick---

It was a pressure ridge about a 1 1/2 miles of stoney point at 11:00 am

My prayers go to thefriends and family. I wish someone could have helped these people but NO ONE should try unless they know they are safe. Don't complicate a complicated matter. Be there for the survivors, encourage them to come away. Too many would be recuers become the victims. As an EMT and FireFighter I know, we hear it all the time. If the bystanders didn't know what to do, then they did right by staying away, but hopefully went or called for help. Play it safe.

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion.  Ice was in very good condition.  Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park.  There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing.  The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out.  The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island.  There is a short spur road going east about half mile out.   The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes.  Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher.  The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight.  You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas.  There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off.  Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them.   Fishing was average.  Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit.  Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75".  Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes.   Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
