Northerns!

Hey Northern anglers. The big pike are going strong right now. North of the river are the best places to fish for these monsters. We caught 12 fish between 30" and 44". Our smallest was 5.1 lbs and our biggest was 18 lbs. Fish the break line of 4 to 8 feet deep.
Good luck.

Any advice on how you caught them, suckers, trolling? Are the Crappies biting at all?

Stud, We caught the northerns on spoons while trolling. We trolled the break line from 4 - 8 feet north of the tamarac river. We never tried smelt or suckers.

Crappies are going very strong right now. If you can get out there when the wind isn't so bad you should be able to catch a lot of crappies.

Good luck

In August will the northerns move into the deeper water (all of 10-12 ft) or does Red form weedbeds in the 7-8 ft range? Sounds like the northeast corner is best. Will this hold true thru August?

Hey Erik, There are more northerns that seem to move to the cribs that time of year. But off the reeds on the northeast side should still be producing. I would concentrate my efforts trolling around the cribs though. Northerns seem to follow the food.
I can tell you more when the time gets a little closer to August.
See you later.
