I know it may be hard to get any tips for opener but the past few years I've been up to Leech for opener but know nearly nothing about the lake. I think in the past we've always fished too deep. Any tips that could help find a fish or two that second weekend of May would be greatly appreciated.

Opener is usually pretty decent. I tend to fish the Hardwood Points, Goose Island, Pine Point, etc. These areas a typically productive, but I would avoid the crowds when you are there. People really tend to stack up for no reason. I have had luck in 5-15 feet of water along this end of the lake. Move around, avoid the crowds, fish early, fish dusk, and don't spend too much time fishing after the sun goes down.

I WOULD FISH AROUND BATTLE POINT AND SUGAR POINT. IF NOT THERE FISH AROUND BEAR ISLAND.
WORKING IN DEPTHS OF 10FT. TO 6FT. DRIFTING
OR BACK TROLLING JIG AND MINNOW. IT WILL DEPEND ON THE ICE OUT THIS YEAR,WHERE TO FISH. USUALLY MY FRIEND AND I FISH DOWN ON THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BEAR ON OPENER.
GOOD LUCK WALLEYE
------------------
Bob's Guide Service
Remer-Grand Rapids, MN
Phone: (218) 566-2398

Leech is big lake that offers anglers a multitude of different fishing opportunities, so it’s very easy to find yourself overwhelmed by all the choices. If you let us know what part of the lake you’re going to be staying at, that would help matters considerably. Another matter of some import would be the size of your boat, as Leech can get darn right nasty in the middle of May, or any other time for that matter.
