Yes, It's me again. And again it's my secret lake. During the summer months there are sunfish all over the lake in the shallows. Some nice 1-1.5 pounders in about 3-10 feet. Now that ice fishing season is here they have completely dissappeared. Where in the world did they go? The lake is not very big. Any comments on this problem would be appreciated. Thanks!

Look to deeper water with weeds. Drill some holes and use your VEXILAR they're there.
If that don't work let me know,
P.S. I like to fish secert lakes too.
We have a private lake around DL and well you can catch those big sunnies all the time during the summer but they like disapear during the winter. What I found out was be mobile. What i do is find weeds and go off of them. Also if the lake has like a flat try that. I know on our lake you'll fish all morning and get some nice ones and they wont bite after 12 so maybe you need to try differnt times. Well if you can understand this at all hopefully it will be of some use.
Fishin' Man

If the lake is a clear water lake, try very shallow, and sight fish. Find the thickest greenest grass and that is where they will be. Be really quiet too, they will spook easily.
If that doesn't work, email me and have me come up and help you figure it out! smile.gif
I will release em all, and I will not tell a soul!
Cyb
[email protected]
www.gemfishing.org

I checked out that site last night alot. I'm an avid fisherman and I also like to guide for friends and family. I'm not a pro guide since I'm still in school. For volunteers and stuff is there a minimum age for it? If you want to get back to me with email [email protected]
thanks
Fishin' Man

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
