I am going up to Leech this weekend and was wondering how folks were doing. Perch? Walleyes? Good depths/times? Also, how is the ice? Thanks in advance.

Fished Leech last weekend. Ice conditions were good, with 16"+ in most areas. Caught some nice perch in the Sand Point area. Walleye action on the humps in Walker Bay was slow. Keep on the move to find the larger perch.

Thanks, Mike. I will post to the forum after the weekend.

Does anyone have any new reports for Leech? How's the walleye and perch bites? Are there good ice conditions on most of the lake? I'm going up this weekend and was hoping for a little information. Thanks in advance.

Fished Leech this weekend. Walker Bay has 16 inches of ice, several more inches will be added over the next few days. Almost no snow. Cars all over the place. Handful of people out on Agency Bay, no cars.<BR>I had some decent success with perch in 12 - 18 feet of water. One nice bonus walleye during the day and a small one in the evening. The people I spoke with are having SLOW fishing. I think I did better than most. Needed to stay mobile and fished areas away from the crowds to get decent perch. Lots of baby ones around. I do well where the pikey weed meets the sand, before the larger breaks. Everything was caught on minnows. Swedish Pimple with a minnow head worked best for perch.

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion.  Ice was in very good condition.  Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park.  There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing.  The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out.  The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island.  There is a short spur road going east about half mile out.   The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes.  Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher.  The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight.  You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas.  There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off.  Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them.   Fishing was average.  Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit.  Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75".  Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes.   Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
