I HAVE BEEN READING THIS FORUM FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND FINALLY DECIDED TO REGISTER. I HAVE LEARNED ALOT OF LITTLE THINGS FROM EVERYONE. I'M FROM SOTHERN MINNESOTA AND MAKE IT UP USUALLY ONLY ONCE A YEAR. THIS FRIDAY IS THE TIME AND I'M BRINGING 10 OF MY FRIENDS ALONG THIS YEAR HOPFULLY WE CAN HAMMER THE CRAPPIES AND THE BOTTLE BASS. KELLYP YOUR REPORTS HAVE PROBABLY BEEN THE BEST I'VE SEEN MAYBE YOU COULD GIVE ME A IDEA WHERE WE SHOULD SET UP FOR NORTHERNS IN THE AFTERNOON AND SLABBERS IN THE EVENING. I AM A RED LAKE FORUM VIRGIN SO BE GENTLE.

Most people fish both at the same place. Tip ups for northerns during the day and crappies rigs at dusk. The northerns seem to be right with the crappies as many more are hooked out deep as then in shallow.

THANK YOU KELLY-P ONE MORE QUICK QUESTION, WHEN USING THE ANGLE EYES WHAT IS WORKING BETTER TIPPING THEM WITH A MINNOW HEAD OR A FULL MINNOW, AND IF WITH A HOLE MINNOW DO YOU HOOK THEM THROUGH THE HEAD OR THE BACK? INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

The crappies will like different things at different times. Keep trying until something clicks or like Curt said move.
When I have a whole minnow on I hook it in the side. From the bottom up just under the skin. Miss the organs and the spine. The minnow will be suspended sideways on your hook trying to get upright resulting in more action. By missing the organs and spine it will be active longer.
