Well the fishing on Saturday was like it has been all year, very SPOTTY. Its all about where your at on the lake, but for this time of year I think the fishing has been excellent and will only continue to get better.

We were off the lake by 7. We caught the majority of our fish in the morning. They would bite on and off during the course of the day. They seem to get extremely slow about five or so. I think we caught two fish in the last hour or so. I did notice that the walleyes really picked up in that last hour and a half. It seemed to be the same on Friday eve. We stayed out til ten or so then.

Most reports were slow Sat. My sleeper was caught up in the crowd by the ridge and the fishing there almost stopped. M gut feeling is that all the activity Friday and Sat. chased the fish away. It had to be real loud under the ice.

Our experience this past weekend at UR was great! Although the 4 that were in Kelly's sleeper didnt catch alot, they sure had a good time. He's right about the crowd over there. Unbelievable! Once they moved around with the portables on the other side of the ridge they were catching fish pretty much all day. We had some great fishing in the other sleeper. 70 crappies in 2 days with alot between 13 and 14",virtually none under 12" hot bite in our shack was 6pm and 12am. Cant wait to come back!

Kelly, is your house grey? If so, we fished about 200 yards North on Thursday and did very well, 28 keepers. Friday right near the ridge and the grey house and 6 of us caught about 50. On Saturday we went about 500 yards North and did a little worse but everyone around us got at least 10 - 12 per house. Not BAD January fishing... really terrific. A friend nearby was running an infrared Accu view and I think that brought my fishing down... have to have some excuse! Wonderful time, wonderful experience. Wish I was up there right now!

Fin Lander,
Yes it is grey/flat white. My attempt at stealth technology. smile.gif
MattP,
I must commend your group. Both my sleeper and I hear that the West Winds house that you had were left in a VERY neat condition. It was much appreciated and will be remembered when you guys are back again. Nick contacted me last night about more openings for that house.
I think your group forgot 2 tip ups, I have them for you. I know your group forgot a bottle of Vodka. I'll save that for you unless I have a bad day and need to toast the crappie gods.

Fishing on Saturday was okay. Three of us kept 12 fish. Even though the numbers were not quite what we were looking for the size is bigger than last year!!! I was surprised that the perch were hitting as late as they were. It was well after dark and they were still biting with the crappie. Strange.

Kelly, it was great to finally meet you. I am sure that I will be in the house that you helped drag out on Friday again this winter. I will let you know when we will be up so you can stop by for a cold one.

Kelly,

I guess that explains why i havent got my tip up back from those guys! I appreciate you holding it for me. We will definately be back up. I also think they worked harder on getting that bottle of Stoli unfrozen from the ice than they did on catching fish! but hey a guys gotta have priorities right?

MattP,
You dodged a bullet, NINETOE is in town an your bottle is stil half full. smile.gif The house is about a mile from where I think the crowd will be this weekend. It would be two miles but I had to bring along a big chunk of ice to keep from breaking the bottle. grin.gif
