Hmmmmmm....Excellent rendition of a tale that probably happens much more often than any of us would like to admit !
Ninefingers, Ninedigits, Nopointer, Lefty, they all have a nice ring to them.
Glad to see you got your sense of humor back Kelly !!

Jet another chapter has been added to the on going saga of "Mutt & Jeff" or "Red Eye Lodge".
Chapter 197.
After a day of social drinking and trying to catch a crappie the crew suddenly realizes to their surprise that they have really caught some. This brings a slight problem to their attention. Now they have fish to clean!!! Off to the bar they go get some advice on how to handle this new problem. As usual one thing leads to another and after countless retelling of the tales of man versus crappie away they go back to the lodge to clean the fish. Knives are sharp! Soon the Lodge looks like a great deer stand. Blood trails all over. Soon Dean has 3 buddies lined up for repair. The situation is so desperate that Guy cuts the top off his sock to stem the flow from some of his fingers. Finally Dean has everyone wrapped up and has taken all their sharp objects way. He then sends them all to bed with a stern reminder that they all should stay in bed. Good plan,,,poor execution! smile.gif
Suddenly there is a loud crash and once again Dean has another patient. It seems one person who shall remain unnamed decided he needed some Tylenol. Up out of bed and down the hallway to the bathroom. That's when he made an important discovery. He was on the 2nd floor. What he thought was the ground floor hallway to the bathroom was in fact the 2nd floor stairwell. After his best Superman imitation he landed headfirst on the coffee table. Kelly, I can vouch for your story! Mutt & Jeff checked in on us Sat. as we were cleaning fish. They were the only people we saw all day who looked worse than us! They asked if we caught the fish that day and we had to tell them they were from the night before! (We snowed in the fish and locked up all sharp instruments before heading to the bar). They said that would have been a good plan as they held up their hands. I've seen less stab wounds at a b-rated Drive in movie. Anyways if they manage to catch fish and do that one more time you'll not only have a friend named Ninetoes, but also one named Ninefingers!

Good Luck! Rip some lips!

Ken

Kelly /Ninetoe,
I plan on being up to URL most of this Saturday (hopefully), I'm going to try to get up for the early morning bite than spend the day before heading back to the cabin in the evening (sobriety permitting). I'd like to meet both of you and put some faces together with the names and possibly partake in few soial beverages (I'll buy....I feel I owe you that for all the information and laughs you've both provided over the past month or two) Let me know if you're interested and where the best place and time to hook up would be.

Kelly,
I didn't expect either of you to be around for any early action, but I thought I'd probably be heading to WW sometime after noon for a bite to eat before going back out for an afernoon attempt. If either of you want to join me for a cocktail and a bowl of chili just say the word. With any luck my bucket will be full (enough) for me to extend the cocktail hour until I point my truck towards the cabin........

Twitter,
I am VERY SURE you will not see NINETOE during the morning bite. The only time he sees the sun come up when he is up here is when he has not gone to bed yet.
NO NINETOE no tables have been broken lately. We felt it our duty to save something for you to do. If I remember right BOTH you and Dean were there at that time. In fact isn't it your smiling face over my shoulder in that altered/faked picture pinned to the post? I'm sure you egged me into it.

Walked out about half a mile on Tuesday with max safety (life jacket, ice picks, long rope to house, and chisel).  Ice was very solid and I measured 7½" today (Thursday).  The first 1/8 mile was nice dark ice that was large chunks frozen together, but quite smooth.  Then there was about 40 feet of very jagged white ice.  Had to lift the portable over the points of ice otherwise it would hang up on them.  Then the next mile of ice was rough white ice as shown in the picture with the ice scoop.  At the small island before Birch Island the ice appears to be dark (and probably smoother).  Several snowmobiles and ATVs were running out as far as Birch Island but it was easy walking for me.   Fishing got better each day.  Rainbow and chubs were about equal.  Couldn't catch a fish on pike suckers.  Best fish was the 27" (8#-3oz) hog shown in the picture.  Had a hard time getting her head into the hole.  Picture quality is bad because I wanted to release her quickly to avoid further stress.  Good luck out there and be careful on the ice.

Measured 6" good clear ice today about 50 yards off the north side of Moccasin point. Walked out for a little ice fishing. Remember ice conditions vary around the lake, depending on sun exposure and current in channels/narrows. Be cautious, safe and verify your local ice conditions.  Directly off the Moccasin point boat landing, in the channel ice conditions looked poor. Picture is from Northside of Moccasin point I the early morning  when ice looks the best

Finished the 23 waterfowl season over Thanksgiving. Got to hunt two days of the long weekend. Saw a modest number of ducks, and harvested mallards, bluebills, and ringnecks as the water began freezing over during the weekend. One of our tougher seasons with different migration patterns probably due to unusual weather patterns with constant fluctuating between well above average temps for a period and then almost instantly well below temps before going well above again, and so forth. Still will cherish the memories with family and friends and relive the sights and sounds of out on the water during fall. Will be posting ice fishing reports in the fishing report clubs as soon as the ice is safe. Happy Holidays everyone.

Thanks for sharing this exciting career opportunity with Orvis in the Minneapolis area. It's great to see companies looking for passionate individuals to join their team, especially in the world of fly fishing.

Shocking, I know.  And what may be more surprising is that one need not head westward to find them either.  There is a thriving, reproducing population of them right here in Central MN.

Cosmo and I took the afternoon off and went pheasant hunting in the fresh snow yesterday.  Tried some new spots that I have never hunted before.  Raised 28 total.  I got a double at the second spot.  Two roosters flushed simultaneously and I dropped both of them.  The first one one fell dead but the second one went down as a cripple.  After retrieving the dead one, I went over to where the second one went down and after some good dog work, Cosmo came out of a patch of grass with it.  Then the final spot produced another rooster for a December limit.  Hunting after a fresh snow is quite often my most productive and enjoyable hunt of the entire season.
